Prime vs Prime-Buster Douglas vs. Shannon Briggs

2 lazy fighters,but i feel Douglas is the better of the 2.Shannon looks the part but rarley delivers.I would pick Douglas to win by mid round stoppage.He would throw too many jabs and have too much skill for Briggs who would probably either just stand there getting hit or plod forward looking for one big shot.

 

I think the Douglas who beat Tyson would have beaten any version of Briggs as well.

 

The Douglas of the Tyson fight would outclass Briggs and stop him in 8.

How did Buster fair against early pressure?

 

Depends on which douglas showed up. If it's the one who fought tony tucker, briggs wins by ko. If it's the douglas that shined against tyson then he wins a clear decision.

In Tokyo, that night, few beat Douglas. He was in the zone. But I could also see him sparked early.

Gimme Douglas. Briggs has no skills, stamina, or poise. He's just a huge guy who hits hard and has fast hands.

 

Buster should have the upper hand from the outside, but the way he came out against Tyson would work against him here. You don't go for a shootout from the opening bell against Briggs.

Lennox Lewis did, as he often did against big men, and it very nearly cost him. He was stunned three times against Briggs, and while he recovered and took care of business, people forget he was three finishing punches away from a loss.

If Buster works carefully and patiently behind the jab, takes advantage when Briggs is winded, he should take a workmanlike UD. Briggs carries his power late, so if Buster doesn't have his mental a-game on, it could be over suddenly.

Prime for prime, I'd back Buster, but I wouldn't be betting money on it. If this matchup actually happened, there's a good chance of Buster showing up unprepared and paying the price.

 

I think the post-prime Briggs who gritted it out against Sergei might be best equipped here. But as Douglas was that good in Tokyo I'd favour him to survive the right hand counters and booming lefts that get through and win a decision.

Briggs was horrible against Liackhovich. No legs at all, no stamina at all.

Briggs of Lewis fight would have been a much beter choice.

 

I cannot believe anyone who scores a stoppage that late in the fight had no stamina. He was gassed for much of the fight but stuck in there. That's what he'd need to do against the best Douglas, who was sharp in the early going against Tucker and Tyson.

If we were talking the blob Buster that turned up against Holyfield then yes, Briggs of the Lewis fight would be best choice.

 

I get what you're saying but I just don't think that the strategy of doing nothing and waiting for a 1 big shot for 12 rounds while eating hard punches would be a good idea against an excellent motivated boxer-puncher with good movement and a good jab .
