Oh come on! That's a thin argument. Martinez wasn't in a position like Hatton was. To compare the two is ludicrous - their circumstances are world's apart. Literally.

I'll say it again. Mayweather can make ANY fight he wants and he chooses to fight under-sized, mentally fractured, or faded fighters. Martinez really has to take what he can, which culminated in him getting a payday versus Chavez - who most people agreed was a good middleweight who had beaten some decent opposition.

The comments do matter. There's a difference between wanting to be a Hall of Fame fighter (which IMO, Martinez is not) and saying you ARE the greatest of all time and running down genuine legends like Ray Robinson.

I don't think the commets matter. Fighters say allot of things. Martinez has also said he wants to be the no1 fighter in the world.

Mayweather fighting undersized fighters when is one of the biggest jokes in Boxing. He has moved up from 130lbs. The only fighter to outweigh him on fight night was JM Marquez, and in recet years he has faced Cotto & De La Hoya with no catch weigt.

But Martinez can fight Martin Murray, who is worse than any fighter Mayweather has faced in 10 year in Argentina.

I think Chavez Jnr is underrated. I give Martinez props for taking it.

Jonsey does have a point though. Martinez is top 5 P4P fight and 3 of his last 4 fights have been against Barker, Murray & Macklin.

Why doesn't Martinez get stick for not moving up in weight?

Probably because he looks small and already stepped up in weight to become the lineal MW champion by beating The Man.

Macklin was fine, IMO. A decent contender with an arguable loss against the longest-reigning MW titlist.

Barker was harder to defend, since he'd done so little beforehand.

Murray is exactly what it is. A tune-up.

Martinez was looking for better fights, but he couldn't get them and he'd already beaten the two biggest threats around in Pavlik and Williams. He wanted to fight his mandatory, but shenanigans put paid to that.

He was pushing for the Chavez fight for a long time and was willing to go back to 154 for Mayweather. Not sure what more he could do.

I am baffled why we're celebrating this from Eddie when slating Frank for doing the exact same thing...

Anyway, Bunce has put this out for years now. However now we're cumming over Eddie for saying the exact same thing?

Only the OP has praised Hearn for this, and he was only doing it to wind you up as well.

Frank would never say anything like this by the way. He would come up with some phoney excuse.

You can't slate Mayweather for not moving up to 154 and then excuse Martinez for not moving up to 168. Mayweather looks small compared to the guys he fights now. He is almost always the smaller man in the ring. Mayweather has also moved up more weight divisions than Martinez.

Will you say Alexander/Guererro is a tune up? Did you call JM Marquez and Ortiz tune ups? I don't think so and all them are better fighters that Martin Maurray.

The point is not Mayweather should get more credit, its that Martinez should be held to a similar standard. The gulf in class between Martin Murray & Victor Ortiz is greater than the gulf between Martinez and Mayweather.

Nothing ground breaking in that interview at all. It's nothing we don't already know.

I remember VVarren criticising Hearn for putting Barker in with Martinez... Didn't he say something a long the lines of "Anyone can get a fighter a title shot, it's about getting them a shot they can win" - or something like that.

Which is funny when you consider Lockett got put in with Pavlik.... And Jennings with Cotto..... Chisora & Vitali to.

Lockett - admitted he'd fell out of love with the game. Career high purse.
Jennings - Good domestic/European fighter who always struggle in a world title fight. Career high purse.
Chisora - See Jennings. Also he got a fight with Haye another career high purse of the back of that.

Frank's point surely refers to higher quality fighters than the 3 you mentioned: Hatton, Calzaghe, Hamed, Brook, Rees, Cleverly, Burns, Khan. He means when a fighter CAN will a world title (even like Barker) why accept the first shot you get when you can take a fight with a slightly weaker opponent, make more money over time and then take that fight as a unification. Eddie constantly says he's trying to make money for his fighters then why did he do that?

Again they are very similar in what they do. Eddis did refuse a Bradley fight for Brook... Does he not have the same faith in Barker/Rees that he does for Brook?

I'm not saying that 3G is anywhere near as good as the Body Snatcher but he's in a similar position to McCallum when he was breaking through.Far too much risk for too little reward(at this stage)
I can't watch the vid right now.Can someone tell me what Eddie's saying please?

That Barkers team (not Darren himself) isnt interested in GGG because hes very dangerous and doesnt bring big money to the table.

Geale had a mandatory defence to make against Golovkin for the WBA title but he also had a defence of the IBF title to make but took the Mundine fight as there was more money on the table.

Sturm kept applying for an extension not to fight his mandatory.

Quillin will get destroyed in my opinion. Against N'Dam, take the KD's out of it, and N'Dam would have won that fight hands down because he was out boxing Quillin.

Martinez won't take the fight because he is on his retirement tour now and I can't really blame him or grudge him a few paydays before calling it quits.

    Thanks.
I can see why people find that so refreshing.

To be fair Lilo, I don’t even know the point I was trying to make with that VVarren comparison. :silly
