I think it just had to do with him saying. "Hey, I have enough money that I don't give a **** about 2lbs"
Clearly he cared as he made Marquez sign an agreement the night before to avoid paying more money to the Nevada State commission Floyd either outright cheated to gain an advantage or he struggled to make the weight - pick and choose
Considering that there are guys fighting at 140 who weigh more than him on fight night, then I get the feeling that if he was willing to cut weight,he could make 140. I just think he REALLY doesnt care about going to the trouble of cutting weight.
Possibly in previous years, he keeps himself in great shape and only walks around at 150 anyway However he is 36 now so I think it'd be a bad idea to lose that much weight
Maybe Floyd just remains in optimal shape all of the time and doesn't have much weight to cut. The 140 guys weigh more on fight night because they are rehydrating. The benefit in this is external; you get to fight smaller guys in the ring. Internally, having a few extra pounds of water weight serves no real benefit to a fighter. Eating properly does, though. There was a time forever ago that Hopkins looked finished (around the Taylor fights) because he insisted on cutting down to 160. Moving up revived his career and he's still at it. Weight cutting shortens careers.

I think Floyd would struggle. He could feasibly make it but those last few pounds would do him in and make him suffer in the ring.
He can make it, but I don't think he feels he's at 100% at 140. He's at the point in his career he can choose where he fights. If he's fighting at 147 it's where he's most comfortable, as he could make the 147 fighters come to 140 if he wanted.
