Exactly. Why would he? Which is why he isn't.

Because he's still inexperienced (hasn't had one notable win to this day, despite being a champion for two years) and is well marketed to ensure Mayweather a huge payday.

He will fight Canelo because he has a big following so he knows he will get a huge cheque. I doubt he is rushing to fight Canelo due to the fact he has a very weak résumé.

Martinez I doubt, he would bring more respect (although even if Mayweather won people would try to discredit the win) he isn't anywhere near as popular so the pay day would be considerably less and he is even bigger and heavier than Canelo.

Both fights I would love to see but people have to be realistic we are not asking Ward to go up to Heavy weight to find opponents because he is so dominant at 168lbs. I've said this all along if Martinez wants the fight then at least appear like you do and take a fight at 154lbs and most importantly do not lol dead at the weight - it may still never happen but at least he did everything he could to make it happen.

For now it's just talk.

It has nothing to do with the opponents being bigger and harder hitting go back and look at Floyds resume he has been fighting bigger hard hitting fighters all his career.

 

Yep...we'll get that fight when Canelo resumes stack up. Oh wait, Pac has a stack resumes and health still come first .

hes fought at 154 so the Canelo and Trout fights makes sense Martinez comin down dont make too much sense but he is the biggest threat

This thread is about Mayweather vs Canelo/Martinez no mention of Pacquiao by the OP.

In any case I'm personally satisfied Mayweather tried to make that fight on a couple of occasions. You have your issues with Floyd and I have my issues with Pacquiao and anyone clean refusing to take better drug tests.

But whatever our opinions are I'm sure they have been beaten to death and dont belong in this thread.

 

He could fight Martinez for the same reason Robinson fought Maxim, Duran and Leonard fought Hagler, De la Hoya fought Hopkins, etc.

Truly great fighters have a natural tendency to keep pushing their limits to see how far they can take it. Don't get me wrong, i think Mayweather is a great fighter. After all, he won 2 JMW belts after spending the first 6 years of his career at 130.

But there's always another bridge to cross, and if Floyd beats Guerrero and Alvarez this year, i'd love to see him challenge Martinez, although there's also something to be said for retiring on top and riding off into the sunset at age 36.... Geez, i'm flip-flopping all over the place on this one, aren't i?

Well, i never said he absolutely has to fight Martinez. But i'll certainly never say he shouldn't fght Martinez because it's too dangerous. Fighters doing dangerous stuff is why we love boxing.

 

Face it guys there aint no way ever Punk Mayweather will ever face Martinez ,Paquio, Alvarez ,Trout or anyone else dangerous. Why should he?? The faithful mayfeathers will STILL buy whatever opponent he comes up with. Personally if a Mayweather farce was on free tv & same time as The Golden Girls I'd watch the GG's probably see a better fight

 

One point I'd like to make. How is it that some folk here constantly accuse Manny Paquaio of juicing??? The same people accused Antonio Margarito of loading his gloves but when the CSAS , his accusers, were cornered & asked to produce evidence they couldnt, there wasnt any.
Yet same people willingly embrace people like Mosely, Holyfield, The Klitschko's, Roy Jones jr etc who were PROVEN abusers. Where is the sense

 

He'd fight Canelo for the money. He'd fight Martinez for his legacy. Unfortunately, Martinez is too big and skilled for Floyd to risk his precious little 0.
