Probably contributed alot he often complained of headaches, blinked very badly and said he felt like water was rushing around in his head. Dehydration cuppled with taking clean shots from guys like Julian Jackson can't do a world of good. He wasn't a nice guy but I'm still a fan and don't think he deserved what happened to him.
this too has to be put into perspective. if a fighters been cutting weight for 2 months or more leading up to a fight he's not weight drained at all. weight drained would be having to cut significant weight in the last day, days or week or so leading up to the weigh in! cutting 20 - 30 lbs over a two month training camp is nothling like cutting 6, 10, 15 lbs just days or so before the weigh in, that's weight drained!
Freitas used to drain alot, actually didn't he once get carried off the scales or was it someone else?
Richie Sandoval against Gaby Canizales Rodolfo Gonzalez for the first Suzuki fight Sot Chitalda takes the cake. Like Flea mentioned, it was defense after defense where he had to boil down.
Can't remember which fight it was but i'm sure Jorge Arce had to be helped on and off the scale at one weigh in. Pretty sure he ended up winning the fight.
Oscar against Pac. Still haven't seen the fight but the reports were out even before the fight happened.
A totally drained fighter isn't sustaining that type of pace over fourteen rounds. By all accounts, Duran was some fifty pounds over the welterweight limit just three days prior to the fight. And I haven't even mentioned the fact that he was still recovering after a particularly rough bout of bollock cancer. I spoke to Toney on the matter and he told me it was 330lbs, so get your facts straight.
If a completely weight drained man takes flush shots from Julian Jackson... You know he has the ultimate chin.
I was going to mention Sandoval myself. He had a lot of non-title fights as bantamweight champ where he would routinely top 130 pounds. I thought at the time that he was getting too big for 118.
Erik Morales was terribly weight drained going into just about every fight during his time at the world championship level. Apparently Jorge Arce blacked out shortly before he got on the scales for one of his fights. Melcor Cob-Castro I think.
This is worth remembering and talking about. I've lost 40 pounds in 3 months, and I felt GREAT. I've seen a fighter lose 8 pounds in a week and need to be hospitalized. The guys in the sauna, the guys in the garbage bags the week of the fight, the guys spitting in a cup and bordering on dehydration and starvation just prior to weighing in, that's when it gets awful. Oscar DLH against Manny Pacquiao was borderline dead to rights. I remember my physician saying that had Oscar cut just a bit more, that fight would have needed to be canceled. Toney cut for Jones the exact wrong way, too.
Morales Pacquiao 2 - Morales was looking scary. De La Hoya Pacquiao - De La Hoya needed medical attention
1. lol @ bollock cancer, never heard it like that before. 2. 330?! I call bull****. Toney is always full of ****. 24 stone! 230lbs ok maybe, even that I am a little skeptical about.
