Broner got hit wayyyyy more than I expected. I know Rees isn't absolute garbage, but by no means should he be competing with an alleged future PFP king. Broner's a good champion and his style will always make for competitive and entertaining fights, but he is certainly more talk than bite. With that being said, I still think he could beat anyone at 140. Lucas could give him a run for his money depending on how Broner approaches the fight. Broner stops Garcia, Khan, JLo, Judah and even Lamont Peterson. His power isn't questionable imo Broner destroys Rios btw. Alvarado is a tougher fight than Rios for Broner
"Destroys" Rios.. in what way? Rios is one tough mofo. One overhand right from Rios who would be walking forward then it could all be over.
Reading some of these threads, I'm convinced I watched a different fight. I'm not sure how many punches Rees landed, but only a handful were solid connects. Many of those shots were glancing blows, or landed on Broner's arms and shoulders. Regardless, it's boxing, guys get hit. Broner dismantled Rees last night. Even the one or two rounds Rees won, it still looked like Broner was in control. It was a dominant performance.
Broner is not the defensive wizard he thinks he is. He got hit to the body plenty and little Rees was hittin him with lead left hooks and even chopping right hands up top. Broner might end rios with his vicious uppercuts but Broner will take a lot of punishment. Rios is one of the best, most ruthless inside fighters right now so if this fight was next, id have to go with Rios. Broner is still growing and learning tho. This is a great match up down the road.
Broner wasn't hit near as much as many threads imply. When he decided to get dude outta there, he did.
I guess it just looked so unfair to me last night. It was like watchin' some bully beatin' up on the simple kid from down the block. Just wasn't right. Wanted to call the cops or somethin'.
The "midget" thing doesn't make sense as a critique. There was a big height disparity, but being a midget actually helped Rees execute his gameplan.
He also had absolutely no concerns regarding his opponents power, which may have fed a little defensive complacency.
Are we talking about the same Rios? The same Rios which Abril dominated? Broner is a far superior tactician than Abril and he's got some ****ing pop. He's 23 and hasn't full developed his power, but I think his power is legit. Everyone he's faced (yes I know- only 130/135) has suffered because of his power. Rios can't box worth of ****. He shines when he's versus fighters with similar styles. Someone like Broner would cut his (Rios) ass up. No fighter is more overhyped than Brandon Rios. Danny Garcia is a close second though... with those "close my eyes and stare down at the canvas" prayer left hooks
