    With a twist:

The Napoles Palomino is fighting is the one that fought Muniz twice, not the version that fought Cokes twice.

    Palomino is prime.

    Who wins?

Good fight. Napoles. He was one of the great welterweights while Carlos was one of the very good ones. Small but signifigant difference.

Still have to give the edge to Napoles. He had the skills and the grit to survive Palomino's spurts of success, which, against this version of Jose, Carlos would have.

I view this as a close but clear type fight. 10-5, 9-6.

It must be said, though, that Napoles was almost done, at this point. Had he fought Palomino instead of Muniz I, I think Jose wins.

If he fights Palomino AFTER those two fights, I think Palomino probably tames an old lion with a clear decision. Carlos Palomino was good enough to beat a great old faded fighter, and the Muniz fights took the last good stuff Napoles had left.

The real question is Napoles vs Duran, Hearns and Leonard.

The version of Napoles that twice butchered Cokes would do the same to Palomino. two totally different classes here.

Carlos might make to the last bell, but his face would look like hamburger at the end of the fight. He'd be thoroughly beaten by the great Mantequilla.

Napoles still edges it. Just a superior all-around fighter, even in twilight years.
