The issue with Floyd is although he is inactive and selective, everyone knows he's brilliant. Look at today for instance, he's had 1 fight in the division over the past 18 months yet there isn't a single welterweight who would be considered anything but a huge underdog against him. That's talking about a division featuring 4 top ten p4p fighters outside of Floyd himself.

Manufactured or not, his dominance impresses me.

These are names that have a shout to be thought of at least the same level as de la Hoya

Sammy mandell wins over mclarnin , canzoneri , Terris, fields and Kansas are surely good to make him thought worthy if the list does indeed get longer

Sammy angott I believe has already been mentioned

And of course jack kid berg should be in same area as de la Hoya at least

Yes I had Pacquiao higher the last few years. Up until he lost to JMM in the 3rd fight. Made up for it with Bradley and now....down he goes.

Although I had Pac beating Bradley, I also thought he looked diminished.

I agree with that entirely, those people who defend his fights saying things like "Guerrero is a great test for Floyd" or "Alexander will be a great chess match" or "Matthew Hatton is a live underdog" just can't rate him as high as I do
I rate him that highly I want him to leave his division just so I can see him challenged. Rubs his supposed fans up the wrong way but like I say they mustn't see what I see.

That minor gripe is not with me then because I agree, I was just listing from the ring (I bought it today you see) in fact usually about now I update the boxrec year end rankings, unless someone has already done it this year.

Same as. But then Floyd didn't look incredible against Cotto.

1987: vacant (I imagine it would have been tyson)
    1988: tyson
    1989: tyson
    1990: chavez
    1991: chavez
    1992: chavez

I think 2000 should have been mosley's year but that aside it seems a pretty solid list to me. A decent startiong point for a timeline anyways.

certainly the most consistent Just realised 87 was the year Leonard beat Hagler so he might have took it that year instead of Tyson :think

Agreed with Luf. Hagler most consistent but Ray has second fight with Duran, Hearns, Kalule (I think made the 80s), Hagler. He has to be best of the 80s IMO.

However, Tyson was the best fighter of the 80s IMO. First few years of his career still wow me. Knew of him since I was a kid, blown away then and my appreciation for what he brought to the table has only increased as I've learned more about boxing history.
