I don't think the lead right hand really is such a big factor here as moorer will probably be quite happy to to get into a shoot-out here with the smaller (weight wise) man and that will allow dempsey to fight his fight and land on moorer's chin and if we are fighting in a three knockdown rule set then I even more strongly go for Dempsey

That's meant to be a good lead right? It's thrown wide as an overhand and slow, it's a sloppy right but it is one of the rare rights Dempsey landed as a lead, it's still a weakness as a lead and he wouldn't normally threw it. Dempsey nearly always leads with a left hook and as you can see the left is what does the damage in that clip

honestly..i know people keep saying how good moores jab was..and i think it was good when a guy choose to box him..but from what i can tell if you wanted to get in on moore and fight it out with him he would oblige.

left hooks are pretty good on south paws as well...espically when you combine it with a lateral -forward step to your own left...

Whoever strikes first... Moorer had better defense, Dempsey a slightly better chin. Moorer, in his prime, was triphammer fast with straight, economical and powerful punches. It may bet a boxing match for a few rounds but the real Moorer and Dempsey will emerge sooner and later and then we will have a brawl.

Very close pick, a series would be damn even. For a one off, I will pick Dempsey.

ehhhh he held his hands up more....better defense though? seems like he wasnt hard to get hit..by mid level journey men or 46 year old guys

I think Moore gets rated a bit too high to be honest...got kind of lucky with Holyfield..never again beat a elite level heavyweight.....unless you count guys like botha and schultz.

Moorer didn't fight like a southpaw; he liked to move to his own left. And, after the wars with Cooper and Stewart, he seemed gunshy, hesitant to throw his left hand. That may have been ok against Frans Botha, but it would not have worked against dempsey. Dempsey would have stopped him in 5-7 rounds. I just watched the 2nd fight with Holyfield, and how well the 'technically superior' high guard of Moorer worked in close...he ate uppercuts like Holyfield ate jabs.
The other option, Dempsey vs the LHW Moorer would have been very exciting to watch for as long as it lasted but, again, I think Dempsey would have beaten him. Moorer has a better chance here.
