What say you? I constantly hear people complaining of 5 lb difference etc.

    A lot? A little?

    I am adding a poll

depends on what type of weight it is. a lot of weight on a small frame cant dish out or take much punishment, a little weight on a large frame can take and dish out a lot more punishment.

i said a huge difference because it can make a huge difference
in cases like Lopez vs Canelo
and fighters that are bloated at the above weight

All things being equal, the bigger guy wins.

Now if the smaller guy is way more skilled and way faster, well then his skills and speed can compensate for his lack of size.

A good big man still beats a good little man.

Mayweather is a great fighter, but stick him in with Froch and it would get messy, even though Mayweather is clearly the more skilled fighter.

Although I agree that people make a big deal over small weight differences too much.

5-10lbs for 140lbsers and up really doesnt make much difference.

Mayweather has been beating guys 10+ plbs heavier than him for YEARS.

    Castillo
    Corrales
    Gatti
    Baldomir
    Ortiz
    Cotto
    Amongst others

if you're a fan of the skinner fighter then it's a problem

if you're a fan of the heavier one then no it's not

It depends. In boxing, too many people base everything on weight. I try to analyze the fighters as a WHOLE.

For example, Mayweather beat the "heavier" Cotto at 154. Cotto is heavier but that doesn't mean he had an advantage considering the state he's in at this point of his career and the fact that he was shorter than May. May would gladly let Cotto weigh more, while May would rather stay in his comfortable 150, knowing he is faster, slightly taller, and has the greater reach. Not to mention the fact that Cotto was shot as ****. Cotto is a SMALL Jr Middleweight but his body type/metabolism makes it harder for him to maintain a weight or to lose weight. While May is very good at maintaining weight but has a hard time gaining weight. Cotto possibly carried more power but when you're dealing with the speed and skill of May, it's not much of an advantage. Every situation is different.
