At the end of the day, boxers fight for themselves/their family, not for the insatiable fight fevers their fans have.

I've been doing quite a lot of thinking about boxers and their susceptibility to pugilistic dementia/brain damage.

I know that I've made fun of Duran before for saying No Mas in his second fight vs Leonard and I want to apologize to all the fans for it.

I've made fun of Vitali for quitting and I also apologize to all the Klit fans.

Rewatching the Bowe/Galota, Taylor/Chavez legendary nights HBO videos, it really made me rethink much about the sport. "You play basketball, soccer, darts, but you don't play boxing"

    It's such a dangerous sport.

Having "heart" is one thing, but maintaining good health beyond the sport is something much more important in my opinion.

At the end of the day, boxing is just a job, and it's one where you could be forced to quit at any time. See Michael Katsidis (Recently)

Sometimes I just think that the corner puts way too much pressure on the fights and don't pull their fighter out of the fight soon enough. See Round 7 of Lewis/Tyson. Tyson KNEW in his heart that he wasn't going to win, he had NO hope that fight. He was already pleading for mercy, yelling in agony saying "No no more, I can't." Tyson could have been spared from the round 8 beatdown + knockout, but his corner just wanted him to go on, they never thought about his health.

Golota in round 2 vs Tyson. Golota was beaten to a pulp, MRI found that his brain was bleeding, he had a concussion, fractured cheekbone, among many other injuries. But fans just keep making fun of him for it. Why?

He was in pain, he knew that permanent damage could incur if he remained in the fight.

Do people want to see these guys suffer even worse injuries? Do people want to see more fighters end up like Meldrick/Bowe? Suffering from such brain injuries, slurring in everyday speech?

Seeing Bowe/Hearns/Meldrick/Ali/Many others now, Meldrick/Bowe suffering from very delayed/slurred speech. Ali's parkinson's, it makes me sad. Really breaks my heart.

Nobody knows the fighters like themselves. If they feel like their life is in DANGER and decide to quit in the fight, then I think we should respect that.

Vitali was in major pains, Victor was in major pains and it could have been worse if it went on.

I just don't think I can make fun of a boxer quitting again.

    Thanks!

Can't recover from boxing. I know a few pros that can't understand a sentence, I know one that can't hold a water bottle with one of his hands. Thats why I never laugh at somebody quitting or getting iced bad. It looks funny but down the line its not pretty

I work in the field of brain injury. I also boxed for many years and I can tell you from first hand experience how devastating boxing is as a sport.

Respect every man who walks in that ring.

I think that the point that fighters now them best is very good. A lot of people say that the trainer or the ref should stop the fight and fighter should never quit on his own. But he is the one taking the punches and the one that really knows his physical condition. Fighters like Cotto and Ortiz just had too much in a certain fight and decided to live and fight another day. I can accept that. I will always give respect for the fighters that will fight trough hell though. I just pray that they will keep their health somehow.

Most of my criticism over fighters are part of mere trolling.

I know I don't have a leg to stand on, they go in the gym and bleed for it, I'm at the computer talking about them.

There's a world of difference, and even though I poke fun at fighters like Bute, it has more to do with his fans than anything else. I have tremendous respect for anyone who steps in the ring to fight.
