demsey was somewhat vulnerable to the right hand but he sure as hell wasn't crude. and while dempsey normally gets alot of crap on this forum, this is one intruging matchup. Tua has the chin to take anything dempsey throws at him Dempsey by decision, 10 rounds to 5.
I just don't see how jack can beat tua. His sole advantage over big guys was speed and mobility but I'm not sure he has that same advantage here. Lets say he gets inside and lands 2-1 in his favour is he really gonna be able to take that 1?
Not that his style is crude (it was quite revolutionary) it's more his skillset. He was for the most part a come forward slugger that was a little too quick to abandon things like setting up shots, timing, feiting and defense in favour of throwing as much leather as hard and fast as he could.
Dempsey doesn't have the speed of someone like Byrd to featherdust his way to a decision. Dempsey can't resist getting into exchange.
This:good Tua quit trying to win and just was content to go the distance. On the other hand he knew he had to walk through a bad neighborhood to reach Lewis. Dempsey would be there in his range so Tua does have a shot here for a KO. I think Jack Dempsey grinds out a decision win because of his superior speed, footwork and workrate. Dempsey could hurt anyone he hits and he would hit Tua.
I wouldn't go that far. One thing no fighter wants is Jack Dempsey hitting them. You don't want Dempsey hitting you. Doesn't matter if its 1920 or 2020. Dempsey hitting you = Bad News.
Seriously Janitor? Maybe if they put their hands by their waist and stuck their chin out certainly. Otherwise there is a whole strew of fighters I could see standing up to Dempsey's assualt. How did the smaller Gibbons manage? Dempsey being able to take out that Willard does not equate to him being able to take out someone like Tua.
