'67 Ali was a completely different animal than the '71 version Frazier beat.

Marciano, Dempsey, Louis, Tyson, and Vitali. Holyfield would have good chance, but I won't pick him due to fact he is so obviously juiced up. I dont see Lewis beating him, would give Holmes a shot.

Most people remember prime Ali as a the one who beat ATG's like Fraizer and Foreman, but Prime Ali is pre-prison Ali who defeated Liston.

I think Holmes has the best chance out of those guys in the poll.

why? all i said is he is overated, and he is probably top 5. but some people on here have him at number 1 heavyweight, based of H2H AND resume. both klitschkos have the same chance as lewis of beating ali imo, because they have comparable outside games.

    btw i voted 'nobody'

    Great post!

I agree entirely, that's why this is such a great debate.

Despite him only being 29 when he first fought Frazier, he wasn't in his prime. He wasn't the same after the three year lay off.

He used to the rope a dope against Foreman because he couldn't dance for 15 rounds at that point.

If he'd have fought the same version of George but in 65, he'd have adopted different tactics all together, and tried to dance his way to a decision. I've heard him say that.

That's how great he was. He beat Frazier and Foreman past his absolute peak.

In my opinion, he'd never have had 3 fights with Frazier, if he'd have fought him a lot earlier. I say that because I don't think he'd have lost to him the first time. Frazier's style would always have caused him problems, but not half as much as they did in the 70's.

I also think he'd have psyched out a lot of these fighters going in to the fights like he always did. I think that would play a huge part.

I think he'd have psyched Mike out, and I've heard Mike say he didn't think he'd have beaten him.

I think once that fight would have gone past 5, Mike would've had no chance of winning.

I think he'd have beaten Lewis without too much trouble.

I think Vitali would have been tough, but he'd have been too fast.

The Rock was a warrior, but in my opinion the speed factor would be too much.

    The same with Louis too.

Dempsey was a slugger who lacked a lot of techical ability. I think that would have been an easy win for Ali. I think it would have been the easiest win from the list.

I think his speed just troubles every fighter.

Looking at the list, I have to agree with Zod.

I can only see a peak Holmes as having any sort of chance.

    My answer is nobody.

I don't think anyone from that list could have beaten him between that time period.

Like I say, I think he would have held huge psychological advantages over most of the fighters, and his footwork and handspeed would have been too much for them.

It goes without saying that prime Ali was a pre exile Cassius Clay.
The Ali of the Liston and Williams fights would be too much for almost anybody.
Anybody thinks a Klitchko could tie him down with a simple 1-2 attack and arm punches while they take blinding 4-5 punch combinations to the face in off their rocker.
He'd circle away and around Wlads right hand while snapping his head back making him look like a clown trying to catch a butterfly in a jar.

Where is past-prime LHW journeyman Henry Cooper on the list? I vote for him.
