Who wants to sit and watch a bunch of overhyped Golden Boy fighters anyway? Most of them have been KOed and exposed as frauds (Mitchell, Ortiz, Khan, etc.) they have Alvarez who is going to be fed to Mayweather down the line so he will get beat. I am a Mayweather fan and I have both HBO and Showtime so this really doesn't matter to me. I don't watch most of the Golden Boy shows anyway they are complete crap I was glad HBO would not show them.
Yo Freddy, you seen your boy Hanzel get turned into a quivering puta? :verysad http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=460122
I actually like HBO boxing much more than SHO. Hated Merchant though. He shouldn't have pissed Floyd off. They waited too late to can him. Oh well. Hopefully Gus Johnson comes back to SHO.
People forget that Showtime has CBS behind it and they are workign together more and more. Getting a major network behind you on top of a premier subscriber channel is hard to beat. I mean Showtime is beating HBO in the comedy game as well. HBO is stagnating big time and I agree heads will roll, they don't do anywhere near enough cross promotion with TNT and TBS, their non subscriber stations.
Guys, I know HBO "feels" like the mecca of televised boxing and carries a lot of nostalgia and does usually have the highest production value and all...but think about it. Would you rather hear those dumb ****s commentate another Mayweather event, or listen to someone with some actual technical knowledge and insight like Al Bernstein (along with the possibly returning Antonio Tarver) dissect the live action for once? :deal
HBO aka Haymon Box Office does this to themselves by giving multimillion-dollar paydays to guys like Berto, Broner and Russell Jr to fight in total mismatches, all in the name of hyping a fighter. Showtime has consistently stepped up their game over the last 5 years, and if I'm not mistaken, their boxing budget is actually bigger than HBO's this year.
