Showtime is making a comeback. Back in 1995, they had Tyson who was, at the time the biggest name in boxing. It fluctuates. HBO has been on top for a long time now. I just hope they keep Gus Johnson of the commentary team. He is the worst! I hate Gus Johnson!
GB has a stranglehold and monopoly over the talent HBO and Arrum are busy begging for 40 JMM to save their ass. I guess HBO lover could look forward to a 50 year old BHOP to fight......................atsch Now would be a good time to cancel my HBO subscription:yep
HBO needs to go back to doing showcases on Friday nights too. They used to have and active BAD on Fridays and WCB on Satudays. You look at Showtime they always have showcases on Shotime the friday night before ANY big card. HBO is fat and happy and now they have let time catch up with them. I said it before, there was no reason HBO should not have got Brian Kenny and Max and Roy groomed them for the WCB but they are stuck with a fat and lazy Lampley holding up Max and Roy.
The really interesting thing about this is the 6 fight deal aspect. Floyd clearly plans on being around for a while yet. Guererro/Canelo this year. That still leaves a lot of big fights to be made.
Gus was fired by CBS and Showtime, I believe he is an exclusive Fox Sports broadcaster, but only for college football.
Exactly. :deal 90's Tyson, all those Chico Corrales wars, Vazquez vs. Marquez...Showtime has taken plenty of turns putting HBO in the corner. (although the majority of the time, admittedly, it's the other way around)
I think the 6 fight deal protects their investment more than anything else. Mayweather will not fight 6 more times and the deal essentially prevents Floyd from going back to HBO before he retires.
I don't get all this hate flooding in for hbo. Roy is a good commentator and know what he is talking about (he seems to have a crystal ball sometimes it kinda freaks me out), Jim can get your adrenaline going when things get exciting, not a fan of max at all, and maybe my favorite Harold who usually has a great score on the fight and adds great insight when they ask for his score.
Roy provides the best commentary on the team, but his sometimes indecipherable drawl ruins it for any viewers not from the South.
That's cool, I just like essentially everything about watching an event on HBO better, just my opinion. It's like the people who like Pepsi, I mean it's no sweat off my back, but it's not Coke. Some people wear Reebok's, hey to each their own and I personally have a pair of Reebok's being shipped my way as we speak, but they aren't Nikes. It's just a semi inferior brand, IMO. That's not to say it's complete **** or anything, because it's not, it's a good boxing network and I enjoy fights on Showtime, but it's not HBO. IMHO.
HBO is selling "The New Coke" then they need to go back to the original and build their brand from the ground up. Can anyone tell use a young star HBO has on lock outside of Broner?
