Vitali may not be the slickest fighter ever, sure, but he has very good reflexes and sense of the distance ( even Steward said so ); that being said, it should be considered his size, when talking about speed, stamina, etc; but i would like to express another thing: it may seems stupid to say so, but his chin could not ever been so granitical as it is commonly thought: he rarely have had cumulative beatdowns, and at this points of his career, considering the cumulative hundreds of punches he took on his head, he could be relatively vulnerable, after all; and the interestic thing is that his brother, on the other hand, has a chin better than how the major part of the fans and of the boxers thinks he has; and that's a thing that plays in his favour, because a lot of contenders exposed excessively in front of him trying to just hit hit his supposedly fragile chin, and took a beatdown in the process.
