Inherently the system can be very difficult to keep your money once you get it as a poor uneducated man because you need to know the rules. Poor people who get money without understanding finances go broke quickly. A fool and his money are easily separated.

Once you start owing, and you aren't paying, that interest...It's astonishing how fast you can be millions of dollars in hoc to the IRS. And it's hard to discharge the US of A in bankrupcy.

I've seen so many fighters go through what you are describing. When you get paid 100k for a fight, you dont just get to keep it. Many of them do, over and over, and five years later, all of a sudden, tax man comes and says, you owe me damn near a million dollars.

And that is why we have some former superstars fighting until they are 50.

I agree , but as he defended his title twice during war time for training expenses only, his two purses going to the Army ,and the Navy funds . Plus he gave God knows how many exhibitions, and war bond selling tours I think they might have cut him a bit of slack .

Yes, he did all that, but he didn't exactly lead a rebellion against facism, or leave his country in protest (like some other famous Germans of the time) nor did object to being used as a "sports" ambassador for the thir reich. So no not a Nazi or a racist, but a definite opportunist.
