T, I saw the Manassa Mauler twice in person. The first time I saw Dempsey was at his restaurant when I stopped outside his front window and saw him a few inches from me sitting by his front table seperated by glass. I and my date at the time were thrilled as he turned toward the crowd outside. I remember his blue-black hair , high cheekbones and massive ham like hands... The second time I saw Dempsey was in 1971 FOTC at MSG... A night I shall never forget. The announcer before the Ali-Frazier fight introduced all the living heavyweight champions ,and he forgot one man ,Jack Dempsey. The great crowd shouted, Dempsey, Dempsey, Dempsey, until the announcer apologised and finally introduced the greatest drawing card in history and the crowd greeted Dempsey with a great ovation...Dempsey and Louis were my favorite heavyweights...What a night that was, and I also loved Joe Frazier since I saw him lose a decision to Buster Mathis in th Olympics in Flushing NY, 1964...Three great and modest fighters were Jack, Joe and Joe. Cheers T.:good
In 1949 I watched Jack Dempsey referee the 3th Ike Williams vs Enrique Bolanos lightweight title fight.
