“I hurt him bad right away!” says Jones with a laugh. “My plan was to get his attention and make him understand that I could knock him out. When he realised that, he changed the way he came at me. He came into that fight thinking he was a heavyweight fighting a middleweight. He didn’t realise he was fighting against a smaller heavyweight. I hit him and shocked him. I put him in total amazement and he was done from that point forward. His corner had lied to him and told him that I couldn’t hurt him. I hurt him right away and he was totally confused and didn’t believe what they were saying.”
I have enough talents that Gods given to me that I dont really mind what people think of me he says. I didnt duck and dodge anybody or care who I fought but the one thing that stands out more than anything is that for as long as Im alive, from now until whenever, Ill be the only man to turn pro as a junior middleweight and become heavyweight champion of the world. Nobody Ive seen will accomplish that feat, at least as long as Im alive. Definitely not in the next forty to fifty years. Nobody turns pro at junior middleweight and becomes heavyweight champion. It. Just. Doesnt. Happen.

RJJ! :happy Definitely don't agree with him fighting on though, most of the cruiserweight champs can bang and it doesn't take much to knock Roy out any more.
Thanks mate, keep them coming! Haven't seen him that fired up for a long time. He actually looked really great in that interview. I saw him on Russian tv a while ago, and he looked really old and tired. But he looked fresh to me in this interview. He looks great for 44, after 64 fights. Many thanks!
He's currently 56-8, but he looked awful last time out, with no balance. There's talk in Poland of him maybe fighting Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. I hope it isn't true, because he'd definitely get knocked out by him. I don't think the Collins fight is going anywhere.
Ironically, accomplishing that feat was what probably destroyed Roy's brilliant career. He was an idiot screwing with his weight the way he did and he paid the price
Yes, he should never have rushed back for Tarver like he did. Mackie Shilstone helped Roy gain the weight for Ruiz, but Roy had no expert help in taking it off. He left his Ruiz weight on for a while in the hope of getting a Tyson fight, and when that didn't happen, he had to rush back to 175. He was never the same after he'd come back down.
I was depressed for a week after I saw Roys last fight. I think he should stop. Someone needs to sit him down and give him a lecture lol. He says it's not for the money... i dunno... i'm sure HBO are paying him well. What about his carpet cleaning bussiness... is that still intact?
It wouldn't make a difference if he was a billionaire! He's healthy, and he knows he can still train and fight at a certain level. We all know he should quit. But you've heard him say in that interview, he still feels great in the gym, and he's not taking any punishment in sparring etc. He knows he hasn't got long left. He knows once he retires that's it, he can't ever come back. So he's going to squeeze every last ounce that he can out of his body. I'm convinced he'll fight another 2 to 3 times. He may need the money, but again, even if he was the wealthiest man in the world, he'd still be fighting. It's all he's done since he was 7, and if he feels good within himself, then he's going to carry on. We've just got to hope he doesn't get hurt. Great thread mate, I love how you keep it updated for us hardcore fans of his. Many thanks!
