you need a subscription in order to watch HBO. Half the people I know, don't even have it.

More competition for the entertainment dollar in the US, that's not intended as a shot at Europe or UK at all, there just is.

 

I would include that being a HW makes it much easier to draw than being in a lower weight division.

Oh I know.

HBO has around 30 millions subscribers, of which about 1.5 million tune in to boxing on average. RTL in Germany will have about 40 millions viewers, of which 10-14 million tune in to watch the Klits, and typically 3-5 million for other fights. It's estimated that when the Klits fight around 40% of all the people watching TV in Germany watch their fights.

Tyson Fury pulls in around 1.5 million viewers from a potential audience of 27 million in Britain. Of that 27 million, Khan regularly pulled in between 3-5 million TV audience.

 

What makes you think that?

Not saying it's wrong, but just wondered. It's not like Europe doesn't have just as many satellite channels, sports teams etc etc.

 

Let not get too carried away, the fight had the Beyonce/Hov documentary as the lead-in.....that has to get some of the credit as people probably left the channel on.

Obviously these figures are far from conclusive - if HBO was free then I imagine those fights would draw in more. Although the potential audiences are of a similar size, there is surely an advantage in being broadcast to every household rather than simply those who can afford it.

It's not broadcast TV. HBO is a premium pay channel. Those are great numbers for cable.

 

Dude. You're talking out of your ass. HBO's most popular and highest rated show, Game of Thrones, set a series record with 4.2 million viewers for the finale last year.

1.4 million viewers for a live boxing match on a premium cable network in the US is great.

For perspective, Alvarez/Lopez set the Showtime record for boxing with 1.04 million viewers.

ETA: HBO never included reruns in the reported ratings. The rebroadcast numbers are always listed separately. I don't know where you got that one from.
