Okay time to give fighters letter grades on their level as a fighter

Seeing Cotto and Khan in the same category just looks wrong.

Who are the A level guys Khan has fought

 

I'd say Cotto is A-/B+

Khan is B

 

Great thread idea, I'd like to see where people's opinions fit as well... I've never been one to grade fighters by letter.

 

A - Pacquiao, Martinez
B - Mayweather, Marquez, Triple G
C - Cotto, Bradley, Broner
D - Khan, Bam Bam Rios, Danny Garcia
F - Miguel Vazquez

 

Do you want us to rate them on a historical level ability-wise or just based on the current crop? For example, historically speaking around the weight he competes in, I'd rate Andre Ward's ability as A- all-time (with somebody like Michael Spinks at 175 and Roy Jones at 168 being A+), but he'd be an A+ in today's game.

A+ Class- Hopkins, Ward
A Class - Marquez
A- Class - Lucas, Cotto
B+ - Garcia
B - Khan

Broner either A- or B+. We still have to see more

 

Lamont Peterson would be ranked where?

 

As a ranking system using letters is too crude & simple to get accurate & representative results. There will always be massive differences between the best & worst fighters in any tier.

Its a **** idea & a lazy way of thinking imo

 

I'll go current crop then. Just some random quickly thought-up rankings:

Floyd Mayweather Jr A+ (clearly well past his prime, but arguably the best in the world still)
Andre Ward A+
Wladimir Klitschko A+ (would be an A historically, but is virtually unbeatable for guys now)
Vitali Klitschko A (only due to being in such a shitty division)
Nonito Donaire A (incredible talent, but shows more holes in his game than Mayweather and Ward)
Juan Manuel Marquez A (slowing down a lot, but still awesome)
Sergio Martinez A- (nice talent, but slowing down and hasn't looked like a world-beater as middleweight champion)
Manny Pacquiao A-
Roman Gonzalez B+ (lack of defining wins hurts him, but may prove to be an A-level fighter)
Abner Mares B+ (could wind up higher eventually)
Adrien Broner B+ (could prove to be in the A-range, but too unproven)
Brian Viloria B+
Timothy Bradley B+
Carl Froch B+
Austin Trout B+
Lucas Matthysse B+
Mikkel Kessler B (used to be in the B+ range, but has slipped)

I'm finding it hard to rate guys like Alvarez, Golovkin, and Rigondeaux because they're so unproven, despite showing flashes of excellence and brilliance (the latter being applicable to Rigondeaux).

 

Putting Pac over Mayweather when he just got put to sleep is ****in ******ed. as well as putting Marquez in the same letter as Mayweather when he's CLEARLY A level above him. Thats just blatant bias.
