Of course you can produce video footage of MAB throwing a right hand. When I say he didn't have a right hand prior to Jones, I don't mean he literally walked into the ring with one arm tied behind his back, I just mean he later threw it with more authority, better timing, and he would later start combinations with it whereas before it would follow the jab more often than not. I've seen the Eddie Croft fight a thousand times. It doesn't disprove anything I've said in this thread. Barrera always had beautiful technique and a lot of craft, but he didn't always have the composure or intelligence he'd later gain through experience. We'lll agree to disagree Bernie. For me, Barrera was not the finished article when he beat the **** out of C level Eddie Croft. Throw Naseem Hamed or Erik Morales in there on that night and let's see how he would have fared. Not nearly as well as he did in 00 and 01, I can tell you.
I chose the Croft fight because it was the first one that came up in results, I could have chosen any fight at random and displayed the same thing. MAB never beat Erik boxing. When he boxed Erik, it was a 50/50 fight. He only took over when he started raging and the second fight is a perfect example of that. We're basically nitpicking here. I think the best version of MAB is at 122, you think it came after that. Agreeing to disagree isn't disagreeable to me :good
Spot on, he was never the same starting from the Wayne McCulloch fight onwards, dunno if it was a mix of elaving Ingle, losing interest and focus, not training correctly, he didn't even look the same physically nevermind by the time of the MAB fight Absolutely one of the most criminally underrated fighters ever, he was a beast and never beaten at his best, i can't think of many who would beat Hamed at his best H2H Guys on here will arselick Roy Jones and make excuses for him but the same peope are quick to wrongly jump all over NAZ, who has one loss, a decision to a peak ATG when not at his best, no one even tested him REMOTELY at his best
There was a sky sports video recently showing most of his career, was from years ago, you saw the quick change in him by the McCulloch fight, had to be a mixture of those things you mention A truly unique talent though, best British fighter of my lifetime outwith Lewis Found the video [yt]W5BRy-c-9Tg[/yt]
Well said, all factual stuff Good to see someone who knows their stuff, anyone that thinks Hamed at hsi best wasn't on that level is blind or a pure hater, as if run of the mill guys do what he done
Uhm hagler cleaned up the entire weight division. Hanged around trying to get SRL to fight him. Hell he fought a younger, stronger Mugabi in a war. He was already ATG at that point. He could have quit and say his legacy is cemented but continued on to fight SRL - his only unfinished business. He was defeated and asked for a rematch. Never got it. What else was he going to do at that point? Hamed had no names in the level of Hearns and Duran on his resume. He does not even have a win like Mugabi on his resume. Probably not even a Hamsho. He was never in a war. He still had loads of competition. He was a skinny FW. He did not want to go up a level and prove he is an ATG. He was very good but clearly short of ATG level. And racism? Come on.
Watch his fight with Kevin Kelley. Aside from that, I agree that he doesn't have any great wins on his record.
:deal Cant make them realize he is not some great ATG fighter, they are in love in his talent, not enough what he could have accomplish who knows what he did is very very good but nowhere near level of great ATG fighters...there is good number of active fighters far greater than him...(Floyd, JMM, Pac etc guys(Pac, JMM) picked them self up after losses and continued prove their self over and over again while Hamed RUN AWAY cant respect him like these guys )
The Kelley fight wasn't a great win, and certainly not Hamed's best opponent nor performance. Hamed's best win was probably Bungu. I'd also certainly rank the Johnson win over the Kelley one, and probably Medina too.
The fight closest to a 'war' was Medina, that was physically his toughest fight, along with the Soto wrestle-fest. I suppose against Kelley too, Hamed was definitely hurt late in round 1, he had to dig deep to win that. Hamed got hit a lot for a guy with such excellent reflexes, he could have cut that out if he'd really wanted, but he didn't actually need to for most of his career.
