This comment is a bit beyond the limit of disrespect....or you can understand Carmen Basilio here ??

I was a bit shocked when I heard he talking in that way about Ray......but later I think I can understand the guy, after all he knew Ray better than anyone here, so.....how we can say anything :conf

In those programs "The Way It Was" he looks very friendly with LaMotta and Graziano, they look like they like each other.....especially Robinson and Graziano.

I think if we're all honest with ourselves, none of us cry very hard when someone we know with a difficult personality croaks. It's politically correct and makes us seem kind and warm to say such things in front of others, but nobody really gives a ****, and they're dishonest to say they do.

In Ray's case, he was a piece of crap as a person, from every single source I've heard or read. Can't say I fault Basilio at all for saying that. For that matter, Basilio seemed rather difficult as well.

Well, by nearly all accounts, Ray was a piece of **** in real life. He was a great, great fighter, but he was a wife beating, arrogant ******* outside of the ring.

I know Fullmer had a very strong dislike for Robinson too.

I haven't heard of anyone ever having problems with Carmen outside of Ray, who had problems with everyone.

Carmen was nothing short of fan friendly and very accomodating when I met him and everything I've heard about him was the same. He was a very nice, funny man, but like several other boxers, he had a temper and wasn't shy about expressing it.

In this instance Carmen is just being brutally honest and wasn't going to start sucking up to Robinson just because he died. Carmen didn't like him when Ray was alive and wasn't going to pretend to when he died.

Well he's not lying. An I can't stand the Ali Robinson comparisons. "Looking at them as almost identical"

Death is a bit too far and disrespectful.

But yeah, SRR is the man I don't want to grow up to be. A wife beating, bipolar guy who puts social image and other kids (i.e from his kids charities) above his own. You can see from the documentary that SRR's son seems mentally fragile with no backbone.

Those guys came from different times. He's not saying hes glad he's dead. In his word he basically just said thats life. I know a lot of older guys like that who don't want people feeling sorry for them either, hard nosed dudes

I agree with this. People get very hypocritical in the face of death, and if Basillo didn't give a ****, he didn't give a ****, did he?

Completely understand. Why should Basilio change his opinion on a man because he dies? That doesn't mean he doesn't respect him as a fighter. Make no mistake about that.

NO, ligitimate beefs are founded on facts & circumstances and we have no right to call real concerns for justice sour grapes or jealousy and such crap.

people get down over in life all the time, and often someones success comes at anothers expence. I never condemn such people their right to speak out when the facts prove someone ****ed them over.
