Seldon or Peter, who was the better fighter?

They both sucked!

I rate Peter as the better of the 2, he may have been incredibly 1 dimensional but he did have a very sold chin & good power.

 

Peter had the much better chin and was stronger. But Seldon was the better technician and more powerful (as he was faster). If the had fought prime vs prime, I would have gone with Seldon by UD 117:111

 

Seldon had more potential. Peter brought himself further.

I'll never forget Bruce Seldon belly flopping on the mat against Tyson without
being hit. He was more skillful than Peter but Sam's chin opened doors for
him to peak higher than Seldon.

 

Probably Peter, but both were extraordinarily weak titlists. At least Peter always tried though, but once people figured out how to avoid his bum rushes, most decent fighters could beat him.

 

Tough one to be honest.

Both guys have good strengths and major flaws.

I thought Peters power was very over stated, couldn't ever really deliver it against a top guy. Though watching him knock Wlad down with bizarre punches/wind was amusing. All the while being completely out boxed.

Much of a muchness I think.

They could have had an epic, trilogy of fights all with bizarre endings and crazy happenings.

 

Peter, but when Peter tried to become a boxer is ruined him.

 

Seldon had more tools, Peter had better chin.

I'd say H2H would be fun fight, but they both sucked.

 

Seldon had a glass chin and had zero defense (or rather was too cocky) to keep it out of harms way. Peter would have destroyed Seldon.

Peter is the overall better fighter, not a better technician by far, but H2H the better boxer.

 

Biggest fights:

Seldon dived for the floor in fear after Tyson missed a punch.
Peter lost to Wlad but decked him three times along the way.

Not much comparison.

 

All this comparison does is prove that Tyson was BY FAR the more feared fighter.

 

Seldon takes far too much flack for the Tyson incident. :roll:

I think people forget the aura of invincibility and tidal wave foreboding that Mike represented even in the mid-90's, after Buster & prison.

Was it his proudest moment? Obviously, no. He crumbled and showed weakness and it was pretty embarrassing.

It's unfair to judge an entire career based on the one night, however. (just as people often do with Popo Freitas, among others)

Putting that one night aside - as well as his ill-advised post-millennial comeback - and looking at just his 80's and 90's body of work he did quite alright considering the glass jaw he was cursed with.

For those questioning Seldon's heart, I would remind them of his other TKO1 loss. He fought a ferocious two minutes against prime unbeaten Bowe, a pit bull against a wolf, never taking a voluntary step backwards and insistently brushing the giant with his jab...only to get BRUTALLY floored with a left hook that would've ended most heavies' evening, only to courageously (and with impeccable showmanship flair) rise up - just to run into another. Hell, the crazy ******* even tried getting up from that one.

So yeah, that night for me sort of cancels out the "OMG, LEMME GTFOH!" situation a few years later against an even more fearsome puncher than Bowe.

Epic heart in one instance, shrunk to thimble-size in another.

He also climbed off the canvas early against Tubbs to last the distance, and was decked thrice by Oliver McCall in the penultimate round to only narrowly miss a chance at survival again.

He fought valiantly - usually the aggressor - and beat plenty of 2nd and 3rd tier contenders with a moderate or better punch.

Don't tell me the guy never had any heart, just because he flaked against Mike ****ing Tyson.
