The only thing that would me at least consider Gerald here is that he was so much bigger. 20+ lbs is no joke when both are at such a high level. But Hagler was just so much more skilled and complete. And let's not forget that McClellans best victories were over a guy that had his best years in the division below Hagler, while Hagler blew out a guy that would go on to be LHW champ and end as a cruiser.
Never really hit ??? Do you know who Hagler had to fight to even get a shot at the title ? I love your almost, coulda, shoulda scenario with Hearns. If only Hagler didn`t see a puch, if only Hearns could have landed another clean one ... Having a good chin, also helped ?? How about possesing one of THE best chins in the history of the sport ? Listen very closely, a man who was never stopped, never legitimately dropped, would have walked through Jacksons shots !! If Gerald was such a possesor of a granite chin and incredible strength, why did benn get to him ? Hagler was cut froma different cloth than benn. he wouldn`t wilt in a fight and was ALWAYS prepared. I love how you genius`s try to compare Gerald`s chin with Hagler, an all time great. Hagler had way too many tools for gerald, he could box like hell when he had to, switched up nice and smooth as well. He would wear down gerald, but unlike Benn. Gerald would not have any knockdown moments for Hagler to recover from. Late rd stoppage with Gerald absorbing a lot of punishment at the end ...
Hagler wouldn`t attack gerald the way he did Hearns. he and goody would have devised a plan where Hagler would box , switch stances and then attack Gerald inside. he would destroy Gerald inside. Nice tight shots, hard body work, and short uppercuts as well. Gerald`s body would slowly wilt againgst Hagler`s inside dominance...
It has to be Hagler, and pretty easily. McClellan would struggle to make weight on the same day. He was gifted and he knew it, but lacked the dedication, and it showed. He made a brawl with a one-eyed Jackson far too difficult, he struggled with anyone who resembled top class when the bell went for the sixth round. Hagler showed greatness; McClellan showed potential...
G-man is the ultimate brawler against another brawler. Anything that has a defence is already at some advantage against G-man. Hagler wouldn't brawl (As in trading shots Lyle-Foreman) but rather box and totally outbox g-man. If (Not like it would happen) Hagler would decide to brawl like Foreman he would get KO'd by G-man, but that's some bull**** fantasy match. Hagler was far too skilled.
McClellan wasn't a brawler. He would circle opponents, use his jab as a range-finder and show amazing timing.
McCllelan was more of a pucher/boxer, which is actaully backwards. Meaning he would use his boxing to impose his power. He had a good jab, good set up puch for him. Calling Hagler a brawler however, was not the cae at all. He had much better overall boxing skills than McCllelan. Hagler could move and box beautifully when the situation warranted it. When Bad Bennie butted open his whole eyebrow years ago. Goody patched it up the best he could and Hagler gave Briscoe a boxing lesson the rest of the way. He used his bxing to breakdown his opponents and then went for the KO. Only when he figured he good get to someone right away, he`d come out gunning. And if you got through his defense, his chin was pure granite... Who could beat him ?/ Maybe a prime SRR, or Monzon with his hight and reach. Monzon and SRR could box patiently and had power to boot.
I said very rarely hit cleanly on the chin and practically never being hit on the chin without seeing it coming. If you are willing to you can try and provide examples on either, I'll bet you'll find very few. I seriously don't even know why I'm even to replying to someone who said "Why did Benn get to him?" try because he had a ****ing damn near fatal brain injury you mongoloid. Jackson landed flush shots on McClellan and he seemed fine, Benn for 9 rounds was landing good bombs, flush too without McClellan faltering in the slightest.
The speed of Benn's naturally perfect bombs were second to none. That opening right hand on Barkley, beating McClellan to the punch all night and the huge shots a slick, defensive slipper like Eubank couldn't react to prior to impact. Hagler was more skilled though, of course.
