I literally had a tear in my eye when Audley won tonight and am not ashamed to admit it.

A really great, heart warming thing to see.

 

Yeah Prescott has a size advantage on Khan. He came out like a raw Thomas Hearns that night couldn't believe what i was watching and Khan was young and stupid.

Price just got exposed for being very stiff and chinny. I mean the lack of flexibility in his top half caused that. Thompson slipped into range nicely, changed the angle and clumped him and he fell down like a stack of spuds.

 

This man knows :deal.

Just got back from the ECHO, Pricey looked good until he got chinned, clearly its going to be a major problem in his career as a pro.

Will be interesting to see whether Maloney carries on with Price or retires, either way I think Pricey should fight Towers next for his titles then try and get a few decent european level fighters under his belt.

If Maloney quits it will be difficult for Satchell, Perkins etc to continue to progress.

 

I still think Price can still be a major player in the post-Klit' heavyweight scene. But he has to buckle down and learn from this - adopt his style to protect the chin and be less complacent.

My fear though is that a reputation for chinniness might become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Even if it was a freak and Price's chin is fundamentally okay, this result will fill future opponents with confidence and encourage them to go for the knock-out - and not many have to succeed to end his career.

You get a similar phenomenon with goalkeepers. A single mistake gives a keeper an erroneous reputation for dodginess; suddenly they are facing twice as many shots as every striker suddenly fancies their chances... inevitably this leads to more goals against and the keeper's reputation and confidence completely collapses.

 

Haye's wasn't too bad because he gassed. There's no shame in that at all, I don't think. As for Khan's, his was very bad but the positive spin was that everyone knew he was heavily draining himself to make weight and there was always the assumption that when he moved up, his chin would improve, and it did.

With Price, you can't say "he only lost because he gassed" or "maybe his chin will improve when he's not weight drained". There is much less room to be optimistic. I think he just has a poor chin.

 

I had a stupid grin on my face during the interview. So good to see Audley fighting well again. He looked so relaxed and boxed flawlessly. I'd love to see him take that confidence into a fight with one of the big boys. Audley vs Price seems on the cards now.
