BTW was anyone able to see any preliminary boxing fights for tonights Showtime fights?

I nearly shed a tear for the man, myself. Congratulations, Ishe Smith.

And what a night for TMT. If anyone is contemplating suicide right now, it's HBO.

 

I would have thought that the amount of big fights there would have created a boxing culture at some point for people there. But I suppose your right, it is one of the new cities in America to.

Either way, great night for Ishe, for a guy to win a world title at the tail end of his career like him, after years of close losses and inactivity is something. Hope he hangs on to it for a while

 

No, there was no undercard broadcast.

I was disappointed, because lately they've gotten in the habit of showing the deep non-televised undercard on Showtime Extreme or something. :conf

 

Great, great night of Showtime boxing. The fights weren't even that great, but the backdrop, storyines and people in particular just made it special. Floyd came off very good tonight, and he came off as a guy who is very good for boxing. I think he is maturing. He was likeable, and seemed to be a pretty goog cornerman. Ishe and K9, while not the best fighters at their weight, came off as teak-tough, and classy guys outside the ring. Tonight just made me feel good.

Showtime over HBO in my book.

Nice moment for Ishe... but after a while I was thinking straighten yourself up, man, you look a mess.


AWFUL fight to watch, by the way. I didn't expect anything less from these two.

 

I thought Ishe came out very tentative and looked intimidated by K9. K9's sloppiness allowed Shay openings that he may never have found on his own.

I hope that the old adage is true and becoming a champion will make Ishe Smith a better, more confident fighter, just as it did for K9.

I'd like to see him hold onto his title for a little while. That would be nice.

 

Ishe obviously is the better technical fighter

However

If K9 had ANY stamina he would have won via being the busier fighter, which is how fighters usually beat Ishe, because he likes to stay in his shell. Once he saw K9 had nothing to give, he was finally confident enough to throw punches & it was over.

 

Ishe looked MUCH slower here than he did in his prime. Personally, I think he was a benefactor of the circumstances... he faced a titleholder who was even older and more shop worn than he was. I don't think he'll hold onto the title for too long... but hopefully he'll manage to cash out against a name fighter, unlike Bundrage, who was never able to as champion.

 

We'll know soon enough. Being tight will make you slower. You can see that Ishe was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders this time and should be looser with his hands the next time out. He hasn't been in many wars -hasn't even had many fights- and the number 34 just doesn't mean what it used to.

I wouldn't cash him out right away, either. That wouldn't do his story justice, and I'm sure TMT would like to milk the Floyd lovefest for as long as they can.
