I think that Marciano is getting under rated head to head, and perhaps a little over rated in terms of resume on this forum.

I don't think Ali weighed in under 200 pounds in any title fight...

Well, since you asked for it... Does anyone think that out of shape Don Cockell is more dangerous than, say, prime Denis Lebedev? Does anyone think it's even close? Marciano in his day had problems with Roland LaStarza, but now all of a sudden he's unbeatable if you're not over 200 lbs?

why does it have to be out of shape cockell v prime lebedev?

rocky had problems as a prospect but won the fight by virtue of a kd, he stopped him in the rematch right?

Revisionist nonsense. Practically every boxer "trains down" to whatever - few box at their "natural" weight.

To be honest with you, Cockell probably would outpoint Lebedev.

Are we supposed to believe that LaStarza was one of the greatest or something? I've seen the film and I'm not buying it. As for Cockell, that's just an example. Does anyone think that former middleweight RUNT Harry Matthews was more dangerous than Lebedev?

    Seek help.

I think Lebedev beats the **** out of Cockell, but I was talking about "more dangerous" to Marciano. Lebedev would not have to look for the Marce. The Lebster has one punch power, southpaw angles, pretty good footwork, never been down as far as I know. If Marciano walks into that uppercut, he's going to feel it a lot more than that punch that Moore knocked him down with.

Who has Lebedev beaten to make you think that he would beat the better fighters of that era?

Cockell was not great, but he was a good technician, who usualy beat limited punchers.

Of course if I am wrong, then it would only prove that Lebedev could beat somebody who Marciano dominated.

Styles make fights, something you stubbornly refuse to recognize. I'm tired of this idiotic fapping to resumes.

Yeah, when he wasn't knocked the **** out, which wasn't too often. Cockell had no chin at all, he was getting beat up and knocked out by middleweights who had nowhere near the power of Lebedev. Moreover, if that wasn't bad enough, Lebedev is not a "limited puncher," he actually has good technical skills. That characterization ("limited puncher") is hilarious coming from someone trying to prop up Marciano's legacy.

Ali was 20 then. And that was the lightest he got by a few pounds, and defending his crown only two months after a 15 rounder.

Yea, if you look at dimensions Carl Froch is as big as Floyd Patterson.
Carl is his upperbody is bigger, Patterson has a bigger lower body.
He also trains down a lot and has a strict diet.

A lot of hws then would fight at a lower division today.

(Floyd didn't train down, he had trouble staying heavy and really had to train and eat hard to stay around the 180)

No, the lightest ali got as a pro was 188 against alex mitef late in 1961. Altogether Ali scaled below 200lb 15 times.

ali was roughly 200lb against henry cooper in 1966 when he was perhaps the finest heavyweight of all time, only 24 and in his prime. All 6'3'' and 82'' reach of him. Proving big guys can boil down if they want to.
