Ali was less than 200lb 15 times in his career and 201lb as late as 10 short months before his exile. Was not Ali one of the naturally biggest heavyweight champions or am I missing something?
Back in his own days, now his size is nothing to brag about. He got around the same dimensions as Haye. (he dehydrated for cruiserweight he's natural at 210-220)
No, you should acknowledge how often a big man like Ali could get below 199 and accept that Marciano's debut weight was also his heavest recorded weight. Boxing made him smaller not bigger. was Ali also a cruiser?
Yeah when he was a kid. Let's do it sesame street style. Here's Alis weight in title fights: 210.5, 206, 210, 214.5, 201.5, 209.5, 204.25, 212.75, 214.75, 211.25. Ali was pretty clearly over 200 with I've exception and when he was 204 he was defending only a month after a previous defense which meant (like with Cooper) he didn't have time to recover. Many people think Williams is his best showing: he was 212. Others like Terrell or Liston (if you don't think it was a fix). Weights: 210/212. Its clear Ali was naturally above 200.
there is nothing natural about david haye. a manufactured heavyweight in any era. David is no taller than karl Froch, hes shorter than Ali. I dispute that he is as big as he says he is. david is a natural 180 pounder just like evander hoyfeild.
Ali was a huge guy, big head shoulders and thick limbs. Up against big heavyweights like Holmes, Norton, Foreman and lyle there is no question muhammad was every inch a real heavyweight by any standard. Fact is under 1960s training he weighed a lot less. As all heavyweights did and would do again under traditional old school training.
Tyson and Tua were both built up. I am certain both could make 190 if they had to. for ALi to look as chunky as those two he would need to be 260!
You don't really believe either Tyson not Tua could forge a career weighing 190. I don't believe you.
Yeah, because Ali is really representative of the average "big man." Because the average big fighter has the conditioning of prime Ali, right. Also, people have different bone size and musculature. You can't just look at height and reach.
Sorry, Choklab, neither could get under 200 past the age of 20. And neither was "manufactured" big. I've met both, stood right next to Tyson and watched Tua spar from ringside. They were naturally big dudes, huge bone structure and ridiculously thick.
if history dealt them the fortune of having to complete against faster lighter heavyweights absolutely. Do you think Joe Louis would need to be 197 today? Joe was a big man too. Tua and Tyson came along when 210-220 was the norm. they did not want to give away weight.
I met Tyson too and he was a huge, natural heavyweight but i also saw how thin he was when he got out of the slammer. big is big and light is light. A fighting weight is not a natural weight its what a guy trains down or up to. I meet ex champs all the time and they are all big men in retirement. middleweight champs the size of a heavyweight in retirement is not unusual.
He weighed less because he was in his teens and early twenties. A prime Ali couldn't make 190 anymore than a prime Duran could have made 119.
