I was thinking to myself through the 1st 1 and half rounds that price was getting way too tentative, it actually looked like he knew he had a glass jaw. he wasn't overly committing to his shots. i wasn't all that shocked when thompson took him out. Most world class heavyweights would have not gone down from that punch if i'm brutally honest. It was more of a cuffing blow.

Think Price had issues with Thompson not being as easy to hit and not falling down as soon as he landed a shot in anger.

Pulev had Price shaken up in sparring according to Franny Smith. Price knows his chin is poor. That being said a perforated eardrum messes up your balance. It done Darren Barker as well, Some people can handle it but most fighters will say it's so hard to deal with at that time.

When you think about it was a massive step up in class.

McDermott, Sexton, Harrison, Skelton..... Tony Thompson.

I can see their reasoning behind it - catching a big name at the right time - but it was still a big risk.

I always felt it was a case of Maloney looking at Fury's current position and match making and trying to match it.

Fury fights Johnson so we need a American heavyweight who's challenged for a world title. He's gone and picked Thompson thinking he was being smart and has made a right balls up.

As you say it's a jump in quality, I mean Price hasn't even had a single gutcheck or been past 6 rounds in a competitive fight. To many questions unanswered by him and that's down to team. I mean Franny Smith compared him knocking people out to Tyson knocking out people. No mate Price isn't Mike Tyson, Stop comparing your man to Wlad and any other past HW.

That's part of problem, they really felt he was like these guys.

Tim Witherspoon supposedly has said what Fury said that Price needs to stand ground and stop bouncing around ring. I noticed it on Saturday he bobs up and down and paws with left hand.

That bobbing up and down coupled with the weird arsed thing he does with his left hand makes it look like he's conducting a band whilst being thrown around on a bouncy castle. Theres no poise in the "technique" :-(

Agreed Ice , I'm just rewatching Skelton fight and it's ridiculous how easy Skelton backs Price up. No jab just shaking it in air, He's got some strange habits.

tbh i thought it would be a one sided 6 round beatdown by Price
i wonder if Thompson didnt land that punch if it still woulda ended in Price failin the 10 count

I thought price would win to be honest. I thought as did most people I've spoken to that he would either get a points win or a late retirement win.

I thought Price looked intimidated from the stare down before the fight, after seeing that, it wasn't very surprising, the way things panned out.

Mainly due to his sub par trainer.

He needs a better set up, obviously his chin will still be questionable but making Pricey gain muscle and just throw the right hand isn't going to work in the long run.

I'm sorry to say that I think that its way too late to change anything substantially now. Its the way that he's boxed since he was a boy so you would be trying to unravel 20 years of habit....I don't think thats possible. He's also a bit of a busted flush where his punch resistance is concerned, everyone will fancy their chances now.

Could be an advantage though, if he learns how to use his jab effectively and keep people off him they'll get frustrated and try things which will leave them open to the big right hand.

I understand what you mean but something like that will only work once or twice, its not a route map to world domination. The jab is the first thing that you learn, if he hasn't worked it out by now he never will...I think that Price is a bit of a manufactured fighter and not a natural so he will struggle to change long held habits
