Until tonight I hadn't seen much of Pulev at all, but had read the hype. Decided to hit up youtube and check out a few fights . . . watched Pulev - Skelton and Pulev - Dimitrenko. Okay, Pulev is decent, a bit more than decent, he's pretty good. But he does not look to be head and shoulders above any of the other contenders. Don't get me wrong, I think he's just as good, maybe better than most other contenders, I just do not see a huge gap in talent there, like the hype implies. I think Pulev against Povetkin, Chisora, Thompson, Charr, Helenius, could possibly be good fights, I'd like to see any of those.
He's definitely not head and shoulders above anyone but he's reasonably good and has faced okay-ish competition so far. Not sure if he would be Fury though and Walker had him pretty hurt too.
Walker going 12 rounds, and Sprott 9, that doesn't look to good. Walker hurting him isn't too surprising as Walker is a big puncher with a bad chin (like Price). I usually don't like the fighter against fighter comparisons, but honestly if Banks, Leapai, Arreola, Adamek, etc... all KO'd Walker, Pulev should have been able to also (you'd think so anyway).
I put him in the same league as Povetkin (who feel has been undersold lately), until proven otherwise. Certainly not head and shoulders above him. I also haven't made up my mind who I figure would win between Tyson and Kubrat if they fought out in the eliminator-though I'm doubting they do, the way those things come apart. I regard all three of those as very good heavies, when on point.
Btw. I was ringside for a fight of his on the Huck v Lebedev undercard two and a half years ago. Didn't manage to stop some random fatass either although his opponent was said to be solidly chinned if I remember correctly.
Pulev is not a hard puncher... He usually stops people through accumulation like Vitali has been doing since his comeback. He's got a great jab though, solid fundamentals and a good chin. He'll go far and will probably pick up a strap when the Klitschkos decide to call it quits.
You don't really see Scott outjabbing Pulev do you? Pretty sure that fight would be decided by who has the better jab.
Scott showed on Saturday that few can compete with him when it comes to the jab. Scott's jab is sharper than Pulev's.
Pulev has a jab wich hurts... Scott jabs looks very fast but did not impress Glazkov at all! And Scotts schools nobody here! He did not "school" Glazkov and he wont Pulev (who is the best looing contender right now).
Doesn't matter if everyone can walk right thru it. Scott has ZERO power, that jab doesn't deter anything. Pulev has scored stoppages with his jab, especially when it counted. He didn't blow his chances on TV.
I like Pulev's attitude, but I have to admit he's very stylistically limited, just an endless procession of one twos, hardly any variation to his offence at all. He's like a bigger more explosive version of Frans Botha. Glazkov at least varied his attack which allowed him to have some success. Scott might have a bit of trouble with the heaviness of Pulev's jab, but once he's got the measure of that looping right hand I can't see Pulev laying a glove on him. I really think Pulev gets exposed if he fights Scott.
Ah yeah he did pal! Scott won 7-8 rounds. That's called schooling. Glazkov is a limited club fighter. Would get trashed by Chisora.
