I see people actually glorify his run like it was great, but when you look at it with commonsense it was all smoke and mirrors..since he left 130 he hasnt been great at all.

The catchweights & rehydration clauses take a lot of shine off his achievements above 130lbs imo

The hype was. And as you said Arum created that.

It was exciting against DLH even though it was a beat down and DLH was way past prime
Hatton was exciting while it lasted
    Cotto was exciting
    JMM 3 was good
Margo fight was good even if it was 154
    Bradley fight was decent aswell..

It was great in that he was fighting and hurting much bigger men. But given pacqiuaos speed, some of those bigger, slower guys were never going to land that much on him anyway, namely margarito. Oscar and Mosley were shot to ****. He deserved the win against bradley but it was far from a great performance. Cotto was a genuinely great win. It's ironic he gained the fame and praise for that portion of his career when his much more impressive victories were earlier in his career.

This smells like a troll thread...

Considering he was a flyweight champion fighting at welterweight against much bigger guys that's where the excitement came in.

No doubt his last great performance was Margarito.

Cotto was a great performance, he demolished him with or without that 1lb that Cotto didn't have. And he absolutely obliterated De La Hoya at 147. Admittedly DLH came down a division to do it but Pacquiao went up directly from 135 to 147, but he gets little credit for what was an incredible beating considering DLH pedigree and his size

Since Margarito his performances have been below par for sure, not the same zip or explosiveness. Though I hadn't seen him look as good as he did against Marquez in the last fight in terms of his overall performance

Pacquiao has been at welterweight since 2009, he hasn't been in the division for the 8 years other so-called greats have campaigned at that weight for

No doubt, Clottey onwards he has laboured and done just enough rather than finish these guys off when they started running

Still if in terms of excitement it's hard to criticise his fights compared to others in the division

LOL demolishing Diaz at 135 and obliterating Hatton in 2 rounds not enough for you? I guess he should have finished Hatton off in 1 round instead...what a joker... :rofl

The only reason it was exciting is because he was going head to head with Floyd a lot of the time. They kept eachother relevant.

So you are saying that every fight I just mentioned was not noteworthy, and the ONLY reason why Pacquiao became as big as he is...is because of floyd?
