Why shouldnt Darcy he was the worlds best middleweight, did more at his age than any other fighter ever has, was a better performer than Gibbons and Greb (while he was alive) despite starting his career roughly the same time. He should be there.

Could you give me a page number on the barry discussion, i am struggling to read through the list of names. It needs re raising, he is flat out better than many of the names on the list. I have already mentioned Marciano, but surely his record is better than Lennox Lewis', at the least. And what in the world did Jake LaMotta do to rank above him, other than star in a movie. But if that was the criteria, JImmy Braddock would deserve a shot.

Mike Spinks wasnt a light heavy when he won the heavyweight title. Plus, he is already on the list isnt he? If not, then i agree he must be there.

On the Calzaghe/Conteh discussion i agree that neither should make the top 120. They are probably getting close to securing a spot, but so are probably another 500 fighters.

I personally find Calzaghe a bit of a head ****

    Champion for years
Beat Hopkins (I felt calzaghe nicked it)
    Beat kessler
Before the lacy fight the American press were giving it the big one
Not really to much else though

Who did he beat that particularly impressed you?

I don't agree. I rate Jack Sullivan higher. I don't think that Burns "must" be included at all. You're the only person in the thread calling for his inclusion.

Absolutely not. Johnson wasn't anything particularly special at that point at all. Johnson was weighing about 170 at this point. It's conceivable that Choynski was the bigger man.

He's absolutely clear that he was totally outclassed and learned more ****ing around with the guy in prison for a few days than he had up until that point. In other words, he was years, a stack of learning and about 30lbs short of his prime.

"Likely wins" over Gibbons, Greb and Dillon? Come on...

He fought in an era that was semi-professional. There was absolutely no money in it for these little guys at this time - the people he was fighting were literally dustmen, policemen etc.

You're contributions are always interesting BM, but as always you are coming from a very singular place and time. I'm comfortable with their exclusion.

Sometimes sorry just isn't good enough.

    Fixed.

Besides, if we're ranking on faces, Azumah was the GOAT.

Or, if we were rating on who's the most handsome, Zaragoza wins.

I know it's a terrible thing to say but: I hope he's dead. He'd be 96 and hearing about this might finish him.

I'm going to wait on who I put in there. I've got Mandell, Angott and these boys are all squealing for Jack like he sent them a card every time they had a birthday. Head is mince, #100 spot postponed.

I'm pissed off I really wanted Willy Joyce in there.

I'll write him up at some point to make it up to him.

I rank Calzaghe higher than you.

    Significantly higher.

    Where's Venis then?

Yes, you did. But my general view of him didn't look to stand up to the scrutiny it would've faced so I bottled it.
