That's serendipity that is. I push for an unreasonable fighter that I can later remove just in time to insert the (hopefully) one remaining lock that I haven't yet rated.

    Jack Dillon beat:

    George Chip
    Al McCoy
    Gunboat Smith
    Fireman Flynn
    Battling Levinsky (loads)
    Frank Moran
    Jack Sullivan
    Jimmy Gardner
    Leo Houck
    Mike Sullivan
    Jack Sullivan

All of them more than once. The original giant killer.

I have to, in order to write the book. I need to be able speak, read and write the language fluently. I need to build up a rapport with the gyms, attend Lumpini and Raja every week and get to know the familiar faces, go to Muay Lok and Champ Boxing Magazine and look through their archives etc etc etc etc

Can't do that a couple of weeks out of the year. Anyway, I can't live there I can get a few months at a time at the most if I'm teaching English out there. But I can do Visa runs pretty easy so at a stretch, if I have to make nigh on a day's journey to Cambodia and back to get another 26 days or whatever, then so be it.

It's doable mate, sometimes you just gotta' roll the dice. My job is sound, but **** it. I'm going for something, if anyone's gonna' do it, it might as well be me. So what if there's already a guy writing a book. He dismissed Saensak Muangsurin, and surely you all wanna' here his story? He didn't go up to Isan and meet Venice Borkorsor. I'm sure he isn't going to write about Sagat, Dieselnoi, Apidet, Jimmy Carruthers' tape worm, Samart Payakaroon's dominance of Sot Chitalada in FTR's, Saensak having hundreds of nails removed from his body after a curse.....you can have all the above, it isn't even scraping the surface.

And I haven't even started. You will love it McGrain. The writing I do now is just so I'm good enough by the time I get to writing this. I will do it for all you lads, the **** we'd want to hear!

I wanna' write a book about the greatest Muay Thai converts to boxing. But now it will be about that, and Muay Thai, and loads of minor fighters, and will essentially be the comprehensive guide to professional ring based fighting in Thailand from 1950-1996.

I hope. The fact these Thai greats are so approachable mean it won't even be hard to speak to a lot of the guys I need to speak to for a fair amount of time. They're sound.

Now have a look at a spot for Dillon. Christ, I could be low-balling him all to hell there, the heavies he beat.

Matter of fact here's an anecdote I got this week from BoranBKK, who spent some time with Poot Lorlek this week.

Poot was pretty highly ranked as a boxer I think, was 10-0 or something. Anyway, he's one of the very greatest Nak Muay of all time, and went 3-1 against Saensak (outboxing him with ease in the footage we have, so he was obviously a capable boxer, and apparently Saensak only got a gift) but he retired from boxing undefeated and didn't pursue it. Boran asked him why and he said, frankly, that he was going to be matched with Roberto Duran and didn't want to get beat up by him, so he retired instead!

Duran is in the top 100 so that second hand anecdote is worthy of the thread :D
