or that an 0 in general is meaningless.

I for one think that having an 0 when you have had over 40 fights is a pretty damn good achievement. If only for the mentality it shows. I mean of course you can cherry pick your opponents to a certain extent. But time after time you have to bring your A game and effectively carry out a game plan against fairly decent, if not elite, competition.

I was just thinking about this whilst doing my running today. I know its not the same thing but it is so hard to continuously stay in condition day after day, year after year and i don't even do it to 50% of what someone like Mayweather does.

As i said. I think it's a pretty great accomplishment.

So what say you ESB. An 0 on your record. Meaningless or meaningful?

Of course it is great. Consistency is very underrated.

The difference between Floyd having a 0 on the end of his ledger as opposed to a 1 is about $25 million per fight

    It's certainly not meaningless

His 0 is more meaningful than the total joke records, but his legacy will always be a guy who didn't make the biggest fights at the right time.

I prefer guys like Oscar and Cotto who take bigger risks, but Mayweather is definitely a few notches above Joke Al and Ottke as far as that goes.

Mayweather back in 2001 -"Allen Iverson can go out there and have a bad game. I can't have an off night in boxing"

If course it's not "meaningless." It's definitely a huge achievement, but not the achievement he claims or his fans want to make it out to be. A lot of cherry picking went into that zero, and there's no way around it.

You're probably right. The issue isn't black and white.

Nope. Cotto and Pacquiao needed to happen. But still even without those names his resume is excellent.

Agree with Slothrop, it's an achievement that deserves credit, but only for the consistency needed to keep that 0. He'd be higher on my atg list with say 2 losses but wins over just a few of the guys who he didn't fight.

My biggest problem with 0's is that casual fans/fan boys use it as a reason why a certain fighter is great/unbeatable, but beating great fighters>>>>>>>>>not losing to very good fighters

And that's why Floyd is never going to get near his full potential in terms of ATG ranking.

Yup. I would cheekily add Margarito to that.

Very true. I pretty much disregard anything a fan boy says though. You can also educate casual fans.
