People who state that Mayweather's 0 is meaningless

The frustrating thing is that Floyd would have been favored in all of the fights that didn't happen, or happen at the right time. I can see why some of the other undefeated guys cherry picked, but Floyd is leagues better than them.

 

Depends. It could be great if you followed through with great fighters. Or it could be **** if your just fighting to protect that 0 and having a weak resume to go along with that 0.

Like Bradley, Canelo, Broner, all have the common weak resume and people will bash on them to step it up or fight someone meaningful.

And then there are those fighters that get the respect they deserve because they take on every challenge and manage to stay undefeated like Mares, Ward, etc.

The constant winning is different when it comes to a fighter that is actually trying to be the best, then one who is sliding himself to glory when their fighting someone who is alot less of fighter then they are and are only being used as a stepping stone.

Depends on competition of course. In the case of Floyd, it means alot. His resume is underestimated.

You'd still have Cotto, De La Hoya, Williams, Margarito, Mosley and god knows who else that you'd need to explain why he avoided/ didn't fight.

And anyway Mayweather is clearly the guilty party for stopping the Pac fight happening when it was at it's most relevant.

Explain DLH/Margarito/Cotto/Williams/Mosley

DLH/Mosley avoided Mayweather when May was calling them out at 130
Cotto didn't want none at 140. Tsuyu/Hatton/Cotto all avoided Mayweather at that time.
Margarito didn't even push for it, Arum was just bullshitting after May left his sorry ass. Also, Baldomir was the much more proven fighter at the time. Deal with it.

Oh, and faking a retirement to avoid the best in your division...then coming out of this fake retirement after the top guys in the division went to war with each other, while shamelessly challenging the last men standing. This taints the "0" as well. Agreed?

It isn't meaningless, but he should have lost to Castillo the first time. If he did, I don't think he'd care as much about protecting that 0 and probably would have fought more guys and taken more risks. He might have taken a few more losses, but he'd have more respect from boxing fans and historians if he did so.

His legacy is more similar to Joe Calzaghe than Sugar Ray Leonard as of right now, and barring a major late-career competition surge, it looks set to remain that way.

 

The guy is the biggest draw in boxing by an absolute mile has been for near enough a decade, if he wanted any of these fights then they'd have been made, that's a fact. No one is going to pass up on a pay day that's probably triple their next biggest purse.
