Serious comment about Dana...I agree that 90 plus % of the time a similar level mma guy would beat a similar level boxer (maybe even 98 % of the time..depending on the styles involved of mma guy/boxer). and i also understand that some boxing fans as well as people in the boxing establishment have given mma ****..so it is understandable that Dana would give **** back at times (here of course he is giving props to boxing in a way, and he does do that at times). Yet i have always wondered...sometimes when Dana is most smug about mma being "better" than boxing, if he has some personal emotional stakes..like maybe because he didnt make it in boxing..either on the business or competitive side? Who knows...
Nice story. There must be thousands more like that. I'm wondering why they rarely surface on ESB. Not all ESB members train in boxing gyms, but stories, like rumors, do get spread around. I always wonder about two rival pro boxers who hate each other so much that they'd get into a street fight. Obviously that wouldn't be a wise thing to do however we've all gotten into a fight once or twice and the truth is your sense of reasoning goes out the window and fists start flying when **** hits the fan. Boxers or pro fighters, like everyone else, have emotions that may be uncontrollable at times. Press conference brawls are one thing. A guy visiting his rival's gym to talk trash and/or fight is another. Maybe it's a way to settle a dispute between the two. It doesn't have to be excessively violent or childish. Anybody got some good stories involving a well known boxer or an MMA fighter?
Freddie Roach has some good stories....winning street fights against biggers guys by biting one ear off and **** like that. he also has the story of how he started working with James Toney. Toney use to bring a crew into Freddie's gym..they would spar and do there thing..may the dues, but didnt really have anything to do with Freddie....one day James was being a dick to some of the other people in the gym.....Freddie went over telling him to knock it off...James basically told him to **** off and make him. Freddie charged at him..had to held back....and while he was being held back said "you will beat my ass but your have to beat me into the ground" or something to that extent...after that Toney respected him and started working with Roach.
lots of stories in boxing though about much smaller guys putting ass whippings on much bigger guys in sparring..even name big guys...
