Which was the more embarrassing defeat? Price was a 10 to 1 favorite, Lacy was not NEARLY as favored to defeat Calzaghe. Price was being touted as the legitimate heir to the Klitschko throne, while Lacy was a manufactured HBO hype.

    The fights:

Lacy was slapped around in a one sided fashion over 12 rounds in a fight that probably should've been called much earlier. On the other hand, Lacy's name will live on forever as desperate Calslappy fans don't have many names to throw around.

Price was brutally and embarrassingly KO'd with a single punch in round 2 by a FAT, SHOT, 42 year old Tony Thompson who was coming off a KO loss. Price was a 10 to 1 favorite and was knocked the **** out in his own back yard with all his friends and family watching. Price even did a hilarious chicken dance straight out of the book of his countryman Amir Khan (their faces even look similar, wtf?).

So ESB, which was the more embarrassing defeat?

Price got caught. It happens. He could at the least, blame a lucky punch (not that I believe in such foolishness. I don't think he has called it that, either) He also could potentially rematch and beat Thompson in my opinion.

Lacy doesn't have that luxury. He caught a very thorough and conclusive beatdown. There is no questioning who would have won an extra nine rematches.

Plus, as you said, Lacy's name has been immortalized to make up for the lack of names on Calzaghe's resume.

Price was nowhere near as hyped as Lacy.

Yeah man, Lacy even had a documentary made about him. LOL

Lacy had a little HBO hype, nothing more. He didn't have this:

Price is a big ticket seller who was BoxNations biggest draw.

Means he has a lot of fans, nothing more.

So, the big ticket seller who is purported to take over the Klitschko throne, who has a lot of fans, who is fighting in his back yard, who got KO'd by 1 shot from a shot, fat, slow Thompson, is less of an embarrassment than Lacy?

Price was KO'd in his home town, he had PLENTY of HYPE going for him, likely more than Lacy who was only an HBO project.

Plenty of fighters have lost every round to Calzaghe.

Getting KO'd in 2 rounds against a 40+ year old, heaviest weight of his career Tony Thompson is pretty bad. It puts Price in a category with Chazz Witherspoon, Maurice Harris, and Owen Beck.

Obviously, getting blown out by Thompson in 2 is much worse than losing a dominant one sided decision to Calzaghe.

A stoppage or a 12 round domination were you very rarely land. The 12 round bout is simply more embarrassing IMO. It proves who is clearly the better boxer, skill wise, levels, etc. Whereas a stoppage can be the above (followed by a stoppage) or simply down to resistance.

Price still could be a champion, think Wald. Some there is hope for him.

Lacy is done, don't forget Lacy lost to a super shot Roy Jones.

    NOW that's bad!

Lacy was seen as great by most Americans and very hotly tipped to beat Joe. Revisionism is what affects the win these days

Like Wlad how? Wlad was relatively young, highly skilled, with a deep reservoir of talent when he was TKO'd early in his career. Price is older, not skilled, has no innate talent to develop.

Thompson made him look very bad BEFORE he stopped him with 1 punch.

    :patsch

He was so highly regarded, that he couldn't even headline a fight or secure a contract with America's premiere boxing network (HBO)... So highly regarded that he couldn't draw flies to **** at his boxing matches. He was completely unknown to the American population at large and even casual American boxing fans. The only "hype" came from internet message boards and a handful of boxing writers who NOBODY KNOWS.

The only reason Lacy was favored to beat Calzaghe in both the U.S. and the UK, was because of how LOWLY regarded Calzaghe was at the time by everybody, and for good reason. He had done jack**** with his career up until that point. Another reason is because of Lacy's superior showing against a common opponent. He wasn't favored to beat Calzaghe because people had him earmarked as a future ATG. You don't need to be regarded as a great fighter in order to be favored over somebody who was widely viewed at the time as being a domestic level boxer at best.

    http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Cocks/Cocks030406.htm

    JAMES TONEY:

"Joe Calzaghe-Jeff Lacy is a mismatch. Lacy is going to destroy that boy. He's too strong, he's a fighter - he's proved himself.

"Calzaghe never did anything. He beat Chris Eubank nine years ago, but what has he done since then? He's a joke, that's why he keeps pulling out of fights.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out of this one. Everybody in the UK is over-protected, but Lacy will be OK, because he's a fighter."

    ROY JONES:

"Lacy wins, and I'll tell you why. One of the main factors that would lead to a Lacy win is Calzaghe's heart.

"I'm not saying Calzaghe dosen't have heart, I'm saying he has too much!

"When Lacy nails Calzaghe and hurts him then Joe will try to get payback, and then he will be open to really get hurt - which he will."

    NIGEL BENN:

is convinced Joe Calzaghe would have bashed up all the super middleweights in the 90s golden era.

Former WBC champion Benn led the British assault on the world’s 12-stone division along with Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Michael Watson.

But Benn says Calzaghe, who bids to unify the IBF and WBO titles when he fights American Jeff Lacy in the early hours of Sunday morning, would have more than held his own.

Benn, now living in Majorca, said: “I’d have loved to have fought Joe.

“I reckon he’d have given all of us a good going over. He is as good as we were, but the shame is he’s had no one really to test himself against.

“It will be different this weekend because I rate Lacy.

“He has fast hands and packs a heavy punch but his chin has yet to be tested — Joe will do that.

“Lacy reckons Joe’s a slapper in the ring but I can tell you that Joe’s slaps hurt.

“Joe craves respect but you only get that by beating the best. Don’t get me wrong, I rate Joe highly, he’s without doubt the best but I wish he’d been busier.

“The occasional fighter has had a good go at Joe and it’s in these bouts Joe has shown his outstanding boxing ability and finished them off with the killer instinct of a top, top performer.

“It’ll be good to see Joe in with a real livewire and I believe it will be a real ******* of a fight — one of the best for years.”

Calzaghe was due to fight Lacy last year but it was postponed when he damaged a hand.

Hand and elbow injuries have dogged 32-year-old Calzaghe’s career, restricting him to six bouts in the past three years.

Some say those injuries have helped prolong unbeaten Calzaghe’s career but Benn would have liked to have seen him in action a lot more.

Benn, 42, added: “In my time, Joe would hardly have had time to draw breath.

“If it was not me, Eubank would have been at the top of the queue and then Collins, backed up by Watson.

“If he didn’t fancy any of us Brits, then the Yanks would have been willing to give him a pay day, fighters like Iran Barkley.

“When Joe beats Lacy, people will say they always knew he could fight like that — only it should have been more often. One of them will go down, that’s for sure.

“I am predicting a real hammer and tongs fight, toe to toe because Joe wants respect and Lacy ain’t gonna give it to him for free.”

So what? Ward, Dawson, Bradley and a handful of other highly rated Americans do extraordinarily poor gates due to poor following. Ward-Dawson sold less tickets than Froch-Mack

    :lol::lol::lol:

Don't act as though poor ticket sales mean anything

Why is it embarrassing for either? They're boxers...there's a chance they are going to lose every time they step in the ring, they both got to a good level in their sport, price might still go further...how humiliating for them...
