There is a misconception floating around this forum that Pacquaio was giving JMM a beating leading up to the KO. This wet dream revisionism needs to STOP. As I recall, Marquez was landing some HARD right hands leading up to the KO punch.
He was ahead on most of the cards and would have won the 6th on most peoples cards had the KO not happened, but Marquez was having good success too and it was obviously very competitive.
First 2 rounds were pretty close, many gave Manny the edge. 3rd was obviously Marquez's. 4th and 5th were Manny's. He wasn't giving Marquez a viscious beating, JMM was always answering with his own hard blows, but Manny was legitimately up by 1-3 points and was looking better than he had in years.
Being up after half or less than half of a 12 round fight means jack....hence TKO6 and KO6, same **** different pile....and fighters dominating second halfs of fights to win UD or SD or whatever. Quite meaningless when the end result shows a legitimate L in the record books. Fanboys use the "doing well, or dominating before the knockout" as some sort of silver lining. I guess it helps a fighter or fans psyche, which is understandable and ok i suppose, but it does not magically morph the L into a W in any context.
Who the hell cares? The point of a boxing match is to inflict as much pain as possible on your opponent. Manny got his ass knocked the **** out by a wicked Marquez right hand, game over. It doesn't matter what Manny did the preceding rounds, it doesn't equal what Marquez did to him in that final round.
fight only went 5 rounds..no 1 was winning..both had a knockdown(even tho juans knockdown of manny was more brutal)
Troll has to start comical threads to make his life better. Why do I get a picture that the likes of you suffer from excessive family molestation even at your advanced age? On topic, Pacquiao was pummeling Marquez and had him seriously hurt and almost on the verge of stoppage. He got reckless, nailed and hit the canvas hard. There's absolutely NOTHING difficult to judge watching this fight. Marquez didn't suffer a broken nose or a concussion getting nailed by air.
The "revisionist theory" would be correct if the 3rd round never happened. And the 4th round never happened. And the fight ended and went to the cards with 20 seconds to go in the 6th. I agree. Delusional. JMM landed some big right hands in the 5th round which some people love to say was a total one sided beating.
no he was not pummeling Marquez..and was not on the verge of getting stopped..he had a broken nose in the 1st fight in the 1st round and still didnt get stopped
I disagree. As I recall, Pacquiao was swinging at air for most of the night. Plus, Marquez was able to score a KD against Pacquaio and was landing some clean right hands. IMO, Pacquiao looked no better than he had in his previous 2 fights.
He hardly looked as hurt or troubled as he ever did in all three fights like he did in this one and not close. He was bleeding heavily, cut and physically damaged. The concussion after the fight proved it.
