Where this all comes from? Many fans suggest Cotto moves back to 147. He's stocky and has been at 154 for almost three years. Last I checked he's not Bernard Hopkins and gets a lil tubby between fights
He lost 7 competitive rounds to a naturally bigger tall rangy running south paw, all of sudden he cant fight at JMW:roll:
Good point. I think it's part wishful thinking from us fans hoping that he could be mildly relevant again if he moves down since he's a no hoper in his current division he always was a fake ass champion at 154 just like Floyd is currently. perhaps the best he could do is convince some big names from 147 to move up to fight him, he could make big bucks with fights against Berto, Ortrees etc. even if he never beats a legit 154er
I thought the *****s said 154 was Cotto's best weight. Now he should move down to 147? His best bet, or best paydays before retirement, will be Pac at a catchweight afterall. :rofl Or stay at 154 and make Martinez come down or fight Canelo at 154. Another option is Bradley at a catchweight, :rofl, of 150. All doable fights since Cotto is a free agent.
154 is Cotto's more comfortable weight according to floyd fans :hat yeah, as long as he doesn't have to fight any natural 154ers :rofl
Here's a novel concept: Fighters gain mass as they age. Cotto basically started at 140 and looked like death in just about every weigh-in since Kelson Pinto. To think that in the final stages of his career he can fight comfortably at 147, just one class up from where he started, is foolish. Cotto is a better fighter right now at 154 than he is at 147. It may well be that he is a bit physically overmatched where he is, but cutting weight will not do him any good right now. That's like saying Morales should have been at 130 or 135 instead of fighting Garcia at 140. atsch
He never had to move up in the first place and Steward had even said his ideal weight was about 150, between classes, so he could do either weight just fine. You gain a little weight as you age, naturally, but it's important to note that while Cotto seems like he's been around forever, he's still a fairly young fighter, at 32 (Some of the young guns at welter, Jones, Bradley, Abregu, are 29). "Old weight" shouldn't be a big issue for a man in these weight classes regardless of the fact that he's well worn. But, like you say, he does get tubby between matches. He's been doing that for a long time. It may play into his longevity in terms of weight cutting. But, I assume he makes the weight fine unless he proves otherwise.
Cotto is a tweener. Too big for 147, too small for 154. I just don't see a good fit for him right now. Ishe Smith is the only titlist in either division that I would favor him to beat. He's one of my all time favorites. I wish he would retire.
Wrong. If your ideal weight is 150, 147 is much more difficult to fight at than 154. This shouldn't even require an explanation.
atsch When taking a smug tone, one should make sure they read what they are replying to properly. You quite clearly did not.
Cotto ran away from 47 because he was scared of Margo. It is clear to see he is simply too small to compete at 154 against real opposition.
Nothing added after your faulty premise contradicts the original point you attempted to make. Even your last sentence indicates that you believe Cotto could still make 147 comfortably unless proven otherwise. I read it.
What Stevie actually saw: What he seems to have thought he saw: Notice, there are differences. Subtle though they may be.
