How Do YOU Think Muhammad Ali Will Be Remembered?

When Ali does move on and the board blows up with people offering their thoughts on undoubtedly the most famous and recognizable figure in all of sports, let alone boxing, where do you see his legend levelling out? Do you see him lionized as a cultural icon (which one way or another he certainly is, good or bad), or do you see some backlash as we rather often see here, with Ali actually playing the opportunistic villain? Let's face it, for every Ali idolator we have here, there is at LEAST one that hates his ass. This many years on, he has that power to divide.


What exactly will his legacy be, then? Opinions?

No athlete except for MAYBE Michael Jordan has transcended their sport like Muhammad Ali. He's more than an icon; He's a global legend. As recognizable as the President. Beloved across nations.

He'll be remembered as the greatest, and the sports world, and quite possible the world outside of it, will tremble with his passing.

 

I've actually given some thought to what I'll post on this site, and maybe elsewhere, when he passes. It's very likely that my eyes won't be dry when I write it.

 

When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

It's like Gandhi the symbol and Gandhi the man. The man, not nearly as good as the symbol, but it doesn't matter. Icons become what they mean to people. It's already happened to Ali, and it will likely stay where it is, I'm guessing.

He will be remembered very well and for a very long time, some would argue for ever.

No doubt there will be a small number of misguided fools applying using poppy syndrome in a futile attempt to tarnish "The Greatest" legacy in boxing history.

 

Did'nt go much on him when i was young but I've come to see him as one of the most fascinating characters I've ever heard & seen. I watched the ESPN archives of Clay roaring & yapping & he is truly messianic in his delivery Absolutely mesmerising :yep

As Boxed eyes said, there's the man & there's the icon, future generations will nit pick just because it'll be something to do, every future generation likes to chip away at the foundations of yesterdays perceived gods & dogma, It'll be no different with Ali. What will be talked about & published will be what sells from both points of view, Good/Bad. It'll all be about what his perceived standing & values of our day will mean to those of the future by way of comparison to there day.

I think Ali is the most important person in Boxing history. He was an ******* sometimes and said a lot of stupid things, but he is a legend....

I think the americans that lived his era are the best to answer that though.....I think he is a part of USA history like any other athlete.

He is not well known in my country I can tell you that...unless to the people that lived his generation, but even them can´t tell things too detailed on Ali.
So I think the americans are better able to answer that question with authority...

 

Will always be known as the greatest boxer of all time regardless of people even actually watching him. Although i rate SRR as no1 p4p all time I have no problems with casuals thinking ali is because of what he did for the sport.

Muhammad Ali is something much more than just a man. Forget sports, he's a cultural icon. A human icon. Symbolic. "Bigger than boxing," indeed.
