Agreed, he does start to lose discipline in his punching form and defense as the rounds go on.

A jab is definitely a better tool for cornering him over the course of a fight, the straight left is more of an effective scoring punch.

You must not understand boxing if you think this.

Nope. He'll put up a good effort but I don't think he'll have as much success as Cotto did.

I kind of disagree with this. Although, I do believe he will get caught with more shots as he ages, I think Floyd's primary defense isn't predicated on reflexes. The shoulder roll is not about reflexes so much as arm, shoulder and waist position. You don't really have to move that much while you're in it to be very effective (i.e. Rios vs. Abril).

Another thing about the tactic is that it's not entirely dependent on age. Capitalizing off of counter opportunities due to using the shell defense is more about forcing your opponent, due to making the available target smaller, to throw certain punches. And kind of knowing ahead of time what kind of shot you'll be countering. Then it just becomes a waiting game.

Now, certain things like the pull-counter, counter left hooks and overall movement will be harder to pull off with age. But he's shown the ability to adapt so far. But if he fights long enough, it'll keep getting worse.

Guerrero's no Cotto. Not even the shop-worn Cotto that fought Mayweather. There will be a vast difference in class here. Guerrero's just way too basic, slow, and overall mediocre to be competitive.

  6. I would guess roughly the same- Mayweather is deteriorating but Guerrero is no Welterweight.

Not sure.... Depends on how he does on the inside trying to rough it up. I know he will do better than JMM did thats for sure.

I think part of the reason why Cotto did pretty well is mainly bc Floyd's stamina was not up to par. I think the long laidoffs and age kicked in.

    Well said.

'Basic' is a perfect word to describe Guerrero. Unless Floyd has declined severely since the Cotto fight, this is going to be a schooling. Guerrero just brings nothing to the table that could bother Floyd.

Cotto is a level above Guerrero. If they fought now, Cotto would beat the **** out of Guerrero. I have no doubt about it.

I think people on here are trying to convince themselves that Guerrero is great because they are so desperate for Floyd to lose.

when was the last time floyd fought anyone halfway decent in their prime? cotto was washed up as shown in his last fight against trout, the fight looked competitive because floyd flirted w a more entertaining style of fighting, victor ortiz? that was a joke! old ass mosely shook em, marquez wasn't ready to fight at that weight, ricky hatton, carlos baldomir? coked out should have been retired weight drained delahoya gave him a run for his money SMH...you have to go back 7 years to when he fought zab judah that he fought someone technically in his prime.

this fight should be a decent test for mayweather and he better win otherwise his new contract with showtime could be a disaster. if he cant beat guerrero at this point who are you gonna have him fight next?

I mean if Guerrero comes prepared he coudl make it interesting for the first few rounds ala Judah. I just dont see him doing it over the course of the fight.

Guerrero throws this occasionally, but I haven't seen him default to it like 95% of southpaws.

What makes him somewhat interesting to watch is how he'll start off combos with only one jab or simply jab the way an orthodox would.

No. Cotto arguably won 3-4 rounds against Floyd. Guerrero will be lucky to win 2.

I think this fight will be a close fight ; something like 5-7 in favor of Floyd. :yep
