David Price, the prospect who many thought would rule the division after the Klitschko era ended, was recently stopped in a shocking bout. The man who stopped him was a 42 year old named Tony Thompson. Though the bookies had Price at a 10-to-1 favorite, Thompson had other plans. At the advanced age of 42, Thompson, nearly 30 lbs overweight, managed to easily impose his will on the novice Price using veteran tactics learned over the years. Price was stopped in the second round by a single punch who many at ringside thought was only a grazing, cuffing shot that wouldn't have phased most boxers from other areas. Price seems steadfast in his will to claim the HW crown. Price insists that he has what it takes to rule the heavyweight scene, despite the numerous detractors that have come out of the woodwork since his defeat. Before the defeat, a bout with current champion Wladimir Klitschko was gaining a great deal of interest. Price had shown against domestic opposition time and again that he had the power and raw talent to compete with a Klitschko. Though many speculate that Price will go the way of lesser fighters such as Tye Fields, a strong belief remains that Price will rise again to defeat a Klitschko. Price must accept that he is still a top quality fighter who was hit by a lucky punch in a sport where anything can happen. If Price can manage to believe in himself once again, and his supporters remain true, his ceiling of potential is virtually without bound. What do you think, ESB?
i think price wasnt fighting like himself, saw the corner were afraid he would tire out, as he has never been a full 12 rounds, i think price was too cautious, wasn't taking the lead. And when he was knocked down, i remember initially thinking it was probably a slip, and he would get straight back up, this is watching it live on tv, but then his legs just went chicken, i dont know i think he could have carried on if the ref gave him a chance, he seemed fine afterwards. but maybe his legs were just too much jigley,
Price still has great talent no doubt, he needs to work on using the ring well, if he had a good trainer, i mean one of the tops, i think he can recover and come back.
Price took a competitive fight too soon and learned the hard way why young fighters shouldn't be rushed into the ring with skilled opponents. Price may be ready for Klitschko one day, give him 5-6 years to get back on track and then he can start thinking about fighting a top 20 guy.
Never gets old for me. Brits can sure dish it out but have trouble taking it. Not unlike their fighters.
Price totally dominated Thompson for 5 minutes (please no revisionist history here.) Although Thompson certainly was game, he only actually landed about 4 punches during that entire time. Price's defense & ring generalship was fantastic. The punch that took Price down was ON THE BACK of the ear, and the only reason Price was so badly wobbled was because his eardrum burst, causing him to completely lose his balance. He did NOT go down due to the power of the shot. ---------------- So, that fight says absolutely nothing about Price's "chin, "defense", or his chances against Wlad. To say otherwise is to unquestionably prove your DKSAB-ness.
