when have you been the most wrong about a fighter?

I rode the Mijares hypetrain. I was young and naive and at least relatively new to the sport though, so...you know...screw you guys. Everyone was buying into that because he genuinely looked the goods and against solid opposition.

Anyway, I picked him to 'totally outclass, batter, and probably stop Darchinyan late,' or something like that. I was real confident in that one, too. Stupid confident, of course. No other pick I've made in the sport has been near that bad. Basically just fell apart after that loss, too. A shame, as I liked watching him box.

I thought Mayweather jr would have burned out and ****ed up after he started his post-castillo cherrypicking and moving up.

Just the MIchael Nunn'ish shallow sort of attitude he had that seemed destined for an upset loss or two and starting to rarely show up in top shape.

I've remained mostly let down by his fight picking choices, but to be fair to him he has remained very dedicated.Or at least a lot more than i thought he had in him.

Damn cobra you must be younger than I am, so you didn't see Hops outclass Tito live on PPV?

I was "wrongest" when I picked Curtis Cokes...an established, sharp cookie of a fighter who was riding high as the boss of the welters, when he took on the challenge of ex-lightweight/junior welter Jose Mantequilla Napoles in 1969.

I thought we were roughly the same age...:think

Anyway, the answer is 'no, I did not.' Probably even a 'Hell no,' unfortunately.

I mean I could have, but I was 9, so I doubt I'd have cared much. Probably pretty awesome to see it unfold live. Unbeaten superstar/P4P elite guy derailed by that performance. Things worked out though. The Tarver showing is a pretty nifty introduction to Hopkins, I think.

I thought Hopkins was too old to beat Tito, Taylor, Tarver, Pavlik, and Pascal.

Was raised in a gym so pretty much recognized the real thing (talent 'n intangibles) from fool's gold

Could not have been wronger about Ali, who was still Cassius Clay, when he started training (ifya could call it that) at Miami's 5th St. Gym.

Couldn't understand what all the fuss was about his becoming a sure heavyweight champ. Didn't think he had the frame to fill out to be a heavy. Was positive he was gonna be one more motor mouth Olympic wunderkind who'd fizzle.

He went through the motions training, spending most of his time chasing tail on the nearby beach with his partner in crime Willie Pastrano and generally giving Angelo Dundee ulcers with his pranks.

He acted like an entitled rich kid with a trust fund.

None of his sparring gave any hint of promise. He danced with his hands down and flicked stay-away jabs 'n wouldn't or couldn't fight inside; 'n avoided punches by pulling straight back ('n RX for disaster) and had no mustard on his punches.

Was sure the first legit heavy he faced would send him into orbit (still talking a-mile-a-minute)

I remember being impressed to hell by a guy named Nino Larocca -- thought he was going to be in the Leonard-Benitez class, or at worst just a shade below.

Wasn't impressed at all by Marvin Hagler in the first Vito Antuofermo fight, not that he actually was impressive. But I didn't expect him to do more after that.
