Carlos Monzon Vs Emile Griffith I

Never seen the full fight before.

    MONZON: 3; 5; 6; 8; 9; 11; 12; 13;
    GRIFFITH: 1; 2; 4; 7; 10

With both men slow starters it's Griffith's superior speed that sees him get off first in the early going, getting inside of Monzon's jab and popping off the left hook. The champion started to find his range and get his timing down in the third. Despite Monzon's omnipresent jab it's Griffith who was the sharper man again in the fourth. Monzon's momentum carried through to the 7th, where it was close but I felt Griffith landed enough clean left hooks, Monzon landed more shots but was sloppier. They traded a lot of leather in round 8, with Monzon's rights starting to pile up on Griffith, who responds well, snapping Monzon's head back at one point but not troubling him. In the 10th Griffith again lands the stiffer shots. The announcer, not bad, has it wide to Monzon as does a calling in Cosell, who says Monzon is 'probably an overrated fighter'. They both stress how different it is watching a fight live in the arena and on a monitor but I'm watching on a laptop and haven't come to Cosell's conclusion that Monzon is up in the region of 6-1-1.

Anyway, Monzon beats the fight out of Griffith, who finishes the fight on his feet, bbut cowering from the menacing Monzon, who is throwing every punch he has in an attempt to finish the durable Griffith, stopped only one before and never stopped again.

Not Griffith at his peak of course, but he gave it a go and Monzon got there in the end, clearly winning it at the time of the stoppage in a competitive fight. Not great, but a rewarding watch.

Damn, Ortiz's KO of Elorde is just brutal.

Ike Quartey vs Oscar De La Hoya

    Hoya 10 9 10 9 9 9 9 9 10 10 9 10 113
    Quartey 9 10 9 10 10 10 10 10 9 9 10 8 114

Great fight and very close, but I'd have a hard time giving this to Hoya. All other things being equal, Quartey was the one pumping the jab out throughout the fight. Oscar became tentative with the jab after he was knocked down. The closest round I thought was the 9th and I gave it to Oscar.

I'd agree but I'm still sure about the set-up here. Until I see Robeisy Ramirez smacking someone about with 8oz gloves and no headguar I'm not sold.

As for Lomachenko he seemed very positive about getting himself out there, but has signed up for this. Amateur is changing to no headguards and 10 point must ain't it? Would rather all these lads just stick to that rather than this hybrid nonsense. That will do enough to see that the pro' ranks fill up with top amateurs that aren't all athletic runner types ;) (only joking lads, I know Golovkin is a beast and Ward is canny as ****, chill out)

    Rau'Shee Warrn :rofl

    Who is this one guy?

It would be great to see another elite who at least would compare to the elites of the 90's.

I watched that the other day too, although I haven't seen all of Matthyesse vs Alexander. I had Matthyesse beating Zab by 7-5 I think before factoring in knockdown

Harada-Rose - What a fight. I recommend everybody to watch it, even if you've seen it before.

I'm going to go back and watch Harada-Jofre 2. I have troubles scoring the fight, so much **** to consider. Racking my brains out.

I watched the Jofre Harada 2 fight recently, 2 class fighters. How did you score the Rose Harada fight?

I would love to say, but I promised to myself not to mention anything like this until I make an official F.Harada Thread..
I thought I was in forbidden territory even voicing my frustration trying to score the second fight.
What were your takes on the fights if you don't mind me asking?

A lot of people see Harada-Jofre II as close and hard to call.

As long as you don't think it's a 'robbery' you'll be safe from criticism.

I also really hope that you don't make a Fighting Harada thread. There are plenty of threads on him already.
