Employing the bob and weave style is simply useless at lower weights. Everything's too fast and too small for a style like that to work well.

Secondly, there is no analogue between Floyd and Tyson. Tyson's a natural heavyweight, in terms of build, muscle, punching power etc. ... he was already 200-odd pounds at the age of 16. He couldn't have been anything but a heavyweight.

Floyd's body isn't made for 160. Chavez Jr. was 181 against Rubio, which is 30 pounds heavier than Floyd was against Cotto. For Floyd to bulk up to those weights would be playing against his body's strengths.

 

But then he wouldn't be Floyd, he'd be someone else. What you're asking then is, 'could a guy who's 5'7 but a natural LHW effectively implement the bob and weave style?' Well, yes.

But that person isn't Floyd.

 

Floyd bobbing and weaving is just a ludicrous idea. There's more to it than his punching power. Power plays a factor, but not much more than other styles of boxing.
