What a pick 'em fight, in my eyes. Something has got to give. Either Hopkins shows he's nearly 50 AND Cloud isn't as bad as most say, OR Hopkins further cements legacy as the greatest "old" fighter ever AND Cloud is every bit as bad as his worst haters claim. Officially on record picking Cloud via decision. I sort of think of the ratio likelihood as: Cloud decision - 35% Cloud stoppage - 20% Hopkins decision - 40% Hopkins stoppage - 5%
Good article. You and i see this fight in the same light. If Hopkins is anything close to the Dawson fight, he should win and possibly in dominant fashion. His ability to control the distance of a fight with his feet alone is amazing. He might pull another Tito, Pavlik, Pascal, etc and school Cloud. Cloud is the type of guy who needs his feet to be set to throw. Too predictable for Hopkins.
This is boxing. So anything is possible. I don't think anyone would be shocked if Cloud kos Hopkins given his age. We'll just have to see.
Cloud by TKO I have grown to respect Bernard but I want to see him get Knocked the **** out and retired already I got my tickets
Cloud has to win this one by stoppage. IF it goes anywhere near the distance B-Hop got this. What's the televised undercard fight for this?
It's a dual site, two channel triple-header per the HBO Boxing website. Salgado vs. Mendez II is on HBO Latino @ 8:30pm EST, then it switches over to regular HBO at 9:30pm for Thurman vs. Zaveck and the main event.
Sweet! I Forgot all about that Thurman Vs. Zavek fight... Will be watching on HBO Latino aswell, THX for the heads up.
Poll results are funny because the betting odds show that Cloud is the favorite but if we went by the poll results, BHop would be about a 2/1 favorite.
Yeah that's a great point, if Hopkins leans on him or makes him chase and frustrates him, Cloud could exhaust himself just like Pascal did. He definitely showed decline from Pavlik to Pascal 2, but his parrying and footwork were still on point. I just don't think he's as good an aggressor as he was. What he did to Winky and Tarver was what he failed to do against Dawson. But here he probably doesn't need to. And thanks, I feel lucky to go and be able to say I saw the man fight, regardless of the outcome. I think Hopkins has one great performance left in him. This is exactly what I was envisioning. Just like the Pavlik fight; circle, throw quick combinations and pot-shots, and come in behind a lead right hand to muscle Cloud against the ropes. I think he should sustain the moments he does press forward, since Cloud seems like a basic boxer-puncher who doesn't fight well going backwards. Also a good way to preserve his legs over 12.
I see this storm carrying the stubborn old man away. :verysad Even with Cloud looking pedestrian against Campillo and then getting laid off for thirteen months, I can't persuade myself that Hopkins can pull it off anymore in light of how bad he looked in the Dawson rematch (and having sat on the shelf nearly as long, which is much worse for a 48 year old than a 31 year old...)
