They are! I could spend hours using the "search" filter on that site, dredging up old boxing articles. They used to write a lot about the sport, and did it really well.

The article link a few of the posters are referring to is no longer valid. The SI Vault changed it's address sometime in the last few years and a lot of links to vault articles on boxrec and older threads on the forum go nowhere on account of the change. Current correct address is as follows https://vault.si.com/vault/1975/06/30/chacon-was-from-hunger

Great article. The boiling down of Chacon just sounds absolutely brutal and ridiculous.

It absolutely just amazes me people can go through that torture. Then attempt to go win a flipping fist fight!? Just nuts!

Great to see those posts from kikibalt. That man is a legend in Southern California boxing and his knowledge of that era, from the late 40s on is immense.

Another comment earlier in this thread is spot on in saying that SI use to obviously have an legit interest in the sport. Maybe I am incorrect in my thinking, but a national sports mag publishing an article on a fight in such a low weight class in those days? And it isn't a one off by any means either. Now boxing seems to rarely make the actual magazine itself and generally only appears on the website. I like getting lost in the vault reading old Pat Putnam articles now and again.

No, I am wrong @roughdiamond I should be saying they would go and try to win a fist fight on THE SAME FLIPPING DAY, LOL! Back in the same day weigh in era, man! Even more brutal! It really is a wonder that any of these men are still walking around with any amount of their faculties. They shame me, that is for certain
