he hires a solid trainer an goes back to the drawing board? He is just 29 years old, has fast explosive hands and good power for a guy his size. His stamina/footwork are pure crap. His D is non existent. Chin is solid. He should hire a trainer like Pedro Diaz to work on Stamina and technique.

    Your thoughts?

He needs to go back to fighting like he used to. The shoulder role he pulled out against Guererro was awful.

    It just doesnt suit him.

Hes a fast, powerful offensive fighter. Thats got him to where he is.
Stick with what you're best at.

Great talent, hand speed, power in both hands...but in all honesty I don't think he was ever a force....

That being said he just needs a good trainer, he needs to improve his leg strength, improve his lateral movement & IQ....

There were points where he was out boxing Ortiz...I think Berto can beat both Ortiz & Guerrerro but he needs to make a big career change now...

Exactly. He seems like the type to desperately want to be great in the sport. Interesting to see his next move.

No he is who he is at this point. A slugger with speed who can't fight on the inside low ring IQ has a shaky chin with poor stamina. I think he's reached his limit. A top 10 fighter at 147 at best.

Imo he should hire a good S&C too. His Upperbody is massive but has chicken legs. He should move some of that weight from his upperbody to his legs. There is no reason for a boxer to be that bulked up. Once Ortiz hit him with power shots he lost his legs and spend the rest of the fight at the ropes.

if he finds the right trainer now he could beat a few people
he needs the trainer right now though
his confidence isnt shot he didnt get knocked out so he probably believes he can still do alot of things

He has some talent but I highly question his fighting spirit.

He's just too mellow, I don't think he has the dog in him that is required to hold down a division like that.

Exactly! He was trying some defensive stance in the Guerrero fight, that was horrendous. He needs to just slug it out, his speed, power, and heart are is best assets and he needs to stick to those.

He just needs to highly condition himself. He needs to rely on his conditioning and pure brute physical force. He says here that he wants the title back and he's going to make it a big comeback in 2013.

I'm not sure. Somehow I doubt that he's willing to make the changes necessary to reach his highest potential. Judging from all the interviews I've watched and read from Berto, he seems to have a truly bizaare persecution complex, as though the entire world has tried to stop his rise to the top, when in reality the opposite is true. The man was making six figure paydays beating Norberto Bravo and David Estrada.

I think that Berto, like Jeff Lacy, Jermain Taylor, and others, was spoiled when he struck it rich too early. Its never a good thing when an untested, twenty year old novice boxer is cruising around in one of his several sports cars. It creates the impression in the fighter's mind that he's reached the pinnacle of his profession and that he doesn't need to improve any more.

This is always a dangerous assumption.

    People are too hard...

Berto IS already a force at 147.

    Yeah he lost...so what?
He is no gimme to any 147ers

Is it just me who think he succumbed to Robert Guerreros bullying tactics?

He just didn't respond the way you want someone to respond, he never showed he had the dog in him.. he just quietly took his beating and didn't put up the resistence.

Andre Cung has seen his best days. Or, if you asked Rigondeaux, Andre Cung can't see at all.
