Unless his boys at GBP pulls some strings or if Canelo's power is underrated/Trout's toughness overrated.

First I must say that I applaud Canelo for taking this fight and he deserves tons of props. I'd been perfectly ok if he fought, Lara, Kirkland or Angulo in April or May. But he decided to take the best fight available to him in Trout and he deserves credit. But there is a reason why Schaefer and the top guys on GBP didn't want this fight to happen. "Right now there are four names that we are looking at and it's an open secret that Canelo's first choice is Austin Trout. It is an extremely, in my opinion, extremely dangerous fight." - Schaefer.

The main things that make me confident in Trout are his movement, workrate and stamina. He also has other good tools like his jab, defense, body attack and size. Canelo's main tools his his strength, combination punching, handspeed, straight right, body attack as well, and punching power.

Canelo has good tools to work with against Trout, but I feel like most of it will be neutralized. This will be a very competitive fight in the first few rounds, but Trout is going to take over around the mid rounds and win the fight. There's a good chance, Trout may sweep the last 4 to 5 rounds of the fight. Canelo's stamina is just very, very suspect. He's lucky he's been fighting a lot of opponents who will fight at his pace. Canelo likes to wait, wait, wait and then blast off a combination. Then repeat this process unless he has you hurt. In between his combinations, he'll jab some and take small steps while trying to counter you here or there.

If it's later in the fight, you'll see occurrences like this happening. Just watch rounds 6, 7 and 9

You'll notice Rhodes has his most success as a southpaw and not staying still. Then round 9 especially exemplifies my biggest issues with Canelo, his stamina.

yes that is Light Welterweight, Josesito Lopez punching Canelo on the ropes, because Canelo needed another breather

Then another thing these rounds highlight is Canelo's stationary feet. If you notice, he only tees off on his opponents when they are staying still. Give him a moving target, and we got a different fight. You can even look at the Alfonso Gomez fight as an example. Gomez only gets caught when he decides to stop moving or if he gets caught with a counter coming in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9s6amHSyZk

As we know with Trout he's not gonna stand in one spot. Trout is going to be moving laterally, giving Canelo angles and if against ropes will have good head movement or tie up. Canelo is like that one guy in the gym he only does heavybag work and hits it all day standing in one spot.

So you combine all these things, you find a stylistic nightmare in Trout. Who will consistently pump out his jab (who averages more jabs than anybody in the division). Moves constantly, is a southpaw and works for ALL 3 MINUTES of a round. Canelo can't do his usual wait, wait, fire pace. When he wants to box and try to counter Trout, Trout will be using his reach and jab to box with him while avoiding counters

When Canelo wants to fire off his combinations, Trout will be moving or he'll tie up. Then when Canelo wants to rest, Trout won't be letting him rest. He'll be punching and working and making sure to use his left hand downstairs to sap more energy out of Canelo. He can fight go backwards and taking small steps backwards and move at angles offensively and defensively to expose Canelo's lack of footspeed. This gif explains it all. Trout comes in lands a combination upstairs and downstairs and gets out all a whole different angle while avoiding the counter.

I know the fight was boring, but go back and watch Trout vs Delvin Rodriguez to see to his use of his feet and how often he lands his left downstairs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU5u4zigcN4

Trout isn't this monster who should be top p4p up there with Ward. He's just a very good fighter with the right tools to be Canelo. This is a guy who beat a Canadian in Canada, Alvarez's own brother in Mexico and Miguel Cotto in New York. He's not afraid and uncomfortable in unfavorable environments. Expect to see another upset in April.

Canelo shows improvement every fight. I think he can beat Trout.

Interesting to see how he goes about it though.

I like Trout in this fight, But to suggest Canelo has no chance is just stupid.

Who has Trout beat? a shot faded Miguel Cotto who is basically a fat lard ass welter weight?

    other than that who?

Sure Canelo hasnt beat anybody either....

this is really a 50/50 fight, I like Trout due to his style I think it suits him well against Canelos style who is similar to Cottos style but the difference here is Canelo is not old shot or out of shape he is a Solid Jr Welter weight....

its a pick em fight I like Trout but I will not at all be surprised if Canelo beats him not at all, I will however bump this thread if it does happen....

yeah I'm exaggerating mostly to make sure I get enough responses.

and the fight will be tough for both. I agree with MannySteward(the poster), that Canelo has gotten noticeably better in each fight.

I too Give the ginger Mex much credit for taking on Trout, finally we get to see Canelo in a real test.

I don't see Trout KOing Alvarez or hurting him, but I can see him outboxing and outworking Alvarez, but then getting robbed in the decision.

Canelo's best bet is to attack Trout's body and take his movement away. Then he could have a more stationary target to work with.

While I think your breakdown is decent in explaining a possible outcome, I just really believe that Alvarez is better than Trout who has been thought of as some kind of era defining or ATG 154 pounder or something. I like Trout and I wouldn't be the slightest surprised if he won, but he has been getting over rated since the Cotto fight. Hardly anybody knew who he was or had seen more than the Delvin fight before that.

Excellent analysis. I've been saying this very thing about canelo.
He's explosive only when you stand right in front and let him set.
He doesn't really even bother to try and come after you. Trout
will let Canelo set his feet and then move out from just a wee bit
too far in range and let his hands go. I also believe that it'll be just
one shot here and there, but after he sees how easy he can hit &
not be hit he'll start to feel free. Canelo can catch him in the pocket
when Trout opens up, but i don't feel Saul has the power to KO trout
w/ one punch. I see a wide pts win for the best 154'lber and fellow
New Mexican in Austin "trout nation no doubt" Trout.

I am really looking forward to this fight, Trout long time sparring partner for Margarito, who helped Margarito prepare for two fights with Cotto and for the Pacquiao fight kid is tuff as nails.....

Canelo, Allot of people will look at his resume and nit pick, He did try and get Kirkland but Kirkland had a boo boo and pulled out...

Tried to get Williams but we know what happened there, its easy to look at Jose Cotto dropping him with a left hook, I agree thats hard not to notice...

And its also easy to dismiss his wins over Mosley and Cintron, but lets be clear here Cintron did get him a win over Angulo and yet so many here tend to think Angulo is going to be a tough test for Canelo? Why discredit the man who beat him in one hand and praise Angulo in the other doesnt make sense...

Neither the Cintron or Cotto wins for either guy means much these days, But what Canelo has done consistently each time out was show you that he is improving.....

Trout lets also not forget about this was in a lack luster sort of event with Delvin Rodriguez, it seems that he had trouble dealing with the speed and counter punching of Delvin in spots.....

with that said this is really a fight between two sorta tested but un tested fighters if that makes sense and its a pick em all day long.....

I am choosing Trout based on his boxing ability the countering ability and that jab, But Canelo does and will bring it and I believe avenging his brothers loss is going to fuel the fire
this will be a great fight......
